Looking for Affordable Dockstart Setup – Is 1300 PnG Still a Good Option?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to get back into dockstarting and need some advice on gear.

I’ve never been great at dock starts, but I can manage to pump a Code 1075 or 960 for a few hundred meters at 95kg. What I’m really after is something that’ll keep me flying longer.

I’ve found a 1300 PnG at a price that works for me—especially since I don’t want to break the bank just for dockstarting. Do you think it’s still a solid option, or have the newer wings improved so much that they justify being 2–3 times more expensive?

I tried the 1550 Leviathan, and honestly, the experience was terrible for me—it’s just way too slow. I’d much rather have something faster with better glide, even if it means shorter runs. For now, I’m totally fine with 5-minute sessions as long as they feel efficient and fun.

Im just as heavy as you are. I don’t think the axis wing will make you fly longer. Everything over 1.5meter wing span probably will. Or losing weight and getting more sporty.
I usually ride the gong Sirus 136 for around 2-3 minutes if I’m pushing it. I regularly ride the new v2 1300 axis wing, which is super fun but not much better in terms of energy saving.

Yeah it’s fine. It’s not fast though.

If you can dock start, especially in flat water, Axis 1401 will go more fast, and far.

Kezia - I’m 89kg and have dock foiled the Axis 1300 PNG, Axis 1401 and Axis 1201 and my latest dock foil is the Code 1250R. The Axis 1300 PNG is great to learn on though slow and if your wingtip comes out at all you will crash as the entire foil ventilates very quickly, the 1401 is faster and a bit easier to keep going though has the same wing tip out and crash issue so you really cannot turn it at all as the span is so large so to me it wasn’t very fun to ride. I rode the Axis 1201 for 2 years and liked it alot although the 1201 was HARD to ride, hard to balance on, hard to launch, it was super fun when locked in though and pumping hard. I got the 1250R and it was amazing, it had the same speed and feel (maybe not quite as fast) as the 1201, was much better as you wouldn’t always crash if your wing tip came out, maybe 75% of the time you can save it, and most noticeably the Code 1250R was like 3X EASIER to ride and balance on than the Axis 1201, so for sure the Code 1250R is my favorite dock foil. At the same time the Axis 1300 PNG you can get for super cheap as the red fuselage doesn’t work with the newer Axis front wings and the Axis 1300 PNG is also very easy to ride and learn to pump with from the dock. I do use a ramp launcher although I think at my weight the Code 1250R would be OK to do a regular run off the dock launch as well. Here is video of me riding the Code 1250R with the short fus, the standard 75cm mast and 135R tail shimmed to 2.5 degree tail stabilizer trailing edge down, this was like day three for me on the foil which blew me away because it usually takes me 1 or 2 weeks just to get the feel for a new foil, how to pump it and everything, the Code 1250R felt locked in right away, especially with the short fus and shimming the tail.
