Maui travel beta

Thanks. I restored it.

Thinking about a Thanksgiving trip to Maui this year to wingfoil and wondering about areas to focus on for lodging that are reasonably close to Kaa/Kanaha that also have decent food options

Paia area (including Haiku) worked out great for me - near the spots (closer to Maliko Gulch and Hookipa but only 10 mins or so to Kaa/Kanaha once you figure out the shortcuts behind the airport) and its a really nice town with things to do. Near the airport (Kahului) is closest to Kaa/Kanaha and there are a lot of cheaper lodging options and good access to food, but lots of big box stores and more industrial spots, so not as much character in my opinion.

Not exactly relevant to your question - but worth posting in the thread - there are a few Maui windsports groups on Facebook that were helpful in tuning me into where the conditions were going to be while I was there. Ka’a/Kanaha is generally a good bet, but there was a lot going on on the south side of the Island (Kehei) that I probably wouldnt have been aware of if I wasn’t on those groups and they also post other useful information that could impact where to go (ship schedules, park closures, etc…) and as a “tourist” I met some people to ride with through the group as well.
