New Cedrus Aluminum

Had the chance to ride the Cedrus Forged Aluminum 78 in the surf today, and the difference was immediately noticeable. It adds a high level of control and stability, especially through hard carves and while pumping. I’ve been riding the Cedrus Evolution Surf in the medium modulus setup for the past year, and this forged aluminum version feels like a significant upgrade in both feel and responsiveness. The connection to the water is much more direct. I could feel the currents and energy of the wave in a way that was more precise and alive. As someone else aptly put it, it feels like the difference between a sports car and a truck. Tighter, more responsive, a bit more feedback, and a more engaging overall ride. Not necessarily as “slippery” or fast in the water as the Evolution Surf, but the feel and control are worth the change. It is true that the aluminum slightly amplifies the wing whistle sounds that happen at very high speeds or during hard turns, but I don’t find that to be an issue. New daily driver for me.

Would you be able to share the stl or stp file? I would like to try this

Had a weird random wobble that bucked me right off in that big DW day a couple days ago

I had a problem with Code adapter that had a wiggle problem due to adapter fitment being a bit loose. If the connection doesnt feel tight try putting some aluminum tape around the adapter, that worked for me.

I have used electrical tape to reduce a bit of wiggle. My AfS adapter fits snug to the fuse but the north adapter had a bit of wiggle when slotted into the ‘geolock’ of the north fuselage. Without any electrical tape it tightens up fine and has no movement whatsoever but I was a bit afraid of overtightening the screws and putting pressure on the whole system so I put some electrical tape instead around the adapter. No more wiggle and I don’t feel like I need to tighten the mast to fuse screws excessively.

I think also that you may feel the flex of the wings more now with the Cedrus. Less dampening. What you might have felt is the wobble of the wings itself?

I thought Bido11561 was referring to the KT mast wobbling?

Correct the KT mast wobble

Added some rubber gasket/sheeting to dampen the noise coming from the axis setup. Will report back on how it goes.

Hey all! I’ll contribute my 2 cents for what it’s worth. I’m down in La Ventana and installed my new 82cm Cedrus Aluminum on Jan 1 and now have 4 days and 7 sessions on it. I’m winging and using Axis Spitfire foils and have previously been using the Axis 19mm Aluminum mast. I’ve been winging for about a year now and never foiled before learning to wing, so have much less experience than many of you, but here are my first impressions:

  1. I had to sand the hell out of my adapter to get it to fit into the axis fuselage. Took at least an hour and a lot of sweating and frustration. Having not expected this and not having a lot of experience in general I was pretty taken aback by all of this. Given my investment (not that of a carbon mast of course, but still!) I was also rather frustrated I had to add this work to the money already spent. But in time, I got it down enough to fit and it is a very snug fit indeed for my now silver adapter.

  2. Very first thing I noticed in the water was the hum. My Spitfires already “whistle” and I can still hear that. This is a very different sound and could easily be felt in my feet through the board. I was cracking up at the comment above about attracting whales because that’s exactly what I thought. We’ve had many whales breaching here in Ventana Bay and I feel I’ve got my own pod following along singing their songs. The sound does change based on height of the mast and seems to be loudest when making a turn. After 7 sessions I’ve grown used to it and don’t think too much of it any longer.

  3. The improvement in connectivity with my foil is immediately noticeable. I don’t know if this is what y’all refer to as “stiffness” but for me it’s been extremely beneficial as I think it’s helped my riding in waves. I’m staying near a wave break here and while the waves are small they are rideable at low tide on the higher wind days and I’m able to make some turns and having the improved connection with the foil is making me better at carves and turns.

  4. I’m also using the wing to learn to downwind and have been tacking a couple miles upwind and then riding out a mile or so and downwinding back. The glide in Cedrus is also a noticeable improvement over the Axis aluminum. It’s made me believe there is hope for me yet in this challenging discipline and I’ve had my longest rides yet with the wing flagged out for 20 - 30 seconds.

Overall I’m pleased with my purchase. Since I’m new to the sport and foiling I’m also very excited to be able to now just get an adapter to be able to sample other brand’s foils and learn more about what is out there!

That is strange about the adapter, as I assume they are all identical (cnc machined). I have a 2022 advance fuse, and a 2023 advance + fuse, and both fit the Cedrus adapter perfectly. Regarding the mast, I’ve only used mine once so far, with the PNG 1300 V2. The level of control over the foil is very confidence inspiring. This mast is going to be awesome for all foils with a big span.

I know it’s too late now but candle wax is the key to get your adapter to fix in the fuse. A tight fit is a good thing.

I’ve had 2 Axis fuses that had completely different fits- one was insanely tight on the Axis carbon mast , 1 was more of a perfect fit. So hard to know who’s to blame. The Axis Alu adapters were always a bit loose though

Well, that confirms there is some variation in the Axis fuselages (also CNC ).

I have a HMC carbon mast which fits a red fuse loosely, a black sillyshort tightly, a black short (newest) very very tight. I added some red wax from a candle, and now it’s a tight fit, but easy to remove on the tightest fuse.

+1 for Black

Just reporting back on using a flexible TPU filament shim. Took it downwinding today with a Progression 200 foil and when I was actually able to get up of foil for a while, it was significantly quieter. To the point where it made a little noise at a certain speed and I realised it was not audible at other times. I’m pretty happy with that. I’d say it depends on the setup you’re running, but it seems running a TPU or rubber shim will cut that right down.

did it feel any less “direct” in terms of input? I guess the shim is thin enough that it wouldn’t really matter, but curious whether there was any other effect.

One of my old setups (cant even remember what it was at this point) had a cork layer on top of the mast plate, which might have the same effect.

Have you had more time on the Cedrus with KT? which KT wings are you on besides 980 nomad? I Feel the wings with span of 920+ can use some more stiffness than the KT mast

Have not done any recent testing…. on new years day the mast got me on top of the head and waiting for the 11 staples to get removed, :face_with_head_bandage: 980 Nomad is the only KT I have. I have tried it with a F one 7 seas I use for low tide reef pass I wing at. Sacrificial wing. Less noise.
