New Cedrus Aluminum

Got axis adapter to play with some of the new surges. Mast and adapter felt super solid so no complaints there. I’ll get in the surf today for more intel

I have some leftover rubber sheeting that’ll be perfect. I’ll have to try, my setup was pretty loud, homeland security scrambled jets

Nice. I’ve drawn up a flexible TPU print, so it’ll be interesting to see what that does. Mines not that noisy, but I’m intrigued.

that looks nice, Im used to my Axis pads after so many yrs riding them, are you making them and selling them? wouldn’t mind adding a pad on my cedrus too :+1:

Yeah, I sort of am, but just for fun. I’ll send you a DM

Do you think TPU will absorb noise / help dampen the mast as much as rubber? Would be interested in hearing how your TPU print works.

I would have thought so and I reckon there would be a whole science to the shape of that shim to help deaden the noise, like, do holes help, or make it worse etc?

There’s also the bolts transferring the noise through, which can’t really be helped.

Mines not that noisy at all, I’m just interested in the shim design. It might help, but you wouldn’t want to make the whole thing too squishy and ruin the amazing direct feel of the mast.

I’m a bit dinged up and out of the water for a few weeks, but I’ll report back when i test it.

Me too please…..

I’m three sessions in on 76 cm prototype forged I bought second hand.

  1. Winging on Fone. Hum noticeable. Wind died on me pretty quick so not much data.
  2. Prone on KT. Much louder than fone. Some whales came up next to me because they thought I was trying to communicate.
  3. Winged KT. This time put plastic mast shim. Toes could feel the vibration.

KT has a hum even with the stock mast and it seems to amplify that through the aluminum fuse and up the aluminum mast. More rider data coming but already it seems Fone is not as loud

Would love to hear more about KT forged vs KT mast ! most importantly slipperiness - Cedrus is .5mm thicker , but 6mm less chord

Stiffness - should be way better on Cedrus?

Turnability- better with cedrus due to less chord?

I have winged nearly all KT foil sizes, out of all models / sizes I haven’t tried only Atlas 1130, Nomad 1160, and the smaller Instinct sizes, and all but my Nomad 830 have been dead quiet. With the KT carbon 77 cm and sometimes 85 cm carbon masts.

What’s your definition of slippery? For me I think twitchy?

Waiting for the right prone day and conditions to do exact comparison on the KT 77 and Forged Cedrus.

Session 4 on the cedrus this morning, prone Nomad 980 with 0d kt shim. Took out most of the hum on the wave but on long pump in still had some.

For me the nomad 980 with 77 KT mast had a slight hum when winging. good to hear not all of them are like that.

Different than a whistle you might normally hear…..

Ha yea everyone defines slippery so differently ! to me slippery means less of a draggy feeling when gliding after exiting the power source (wave , dw bump, foil drive , etc)

I see that the top of the mast is listed as 20mm thick, and “piercing region” is 16mm . What is the thickness at the bottom? from the pics it looks thicker than the middle

Mines 19.95mm, so the same as the top, which makes sense as that would be the original extrusion, before the shaping of the middle section.

I would love to hear that review of the KT mast vs the Cedrus Alu evolution. I was torn but went for the Cedrus mast so I can ride F-One and KT.

I have both currently. Bought the Cedrus and have KT on loan. As soon as conditions and time allow will be doing some same day testing. Stand by…..

….been thinking about this.

You know when you are in a fast car and it accelerates through a turn and is in full control exiting the turn? KT with cedrus feels like that.

And also going fast in a car that “can” go fast but you feel like it…. and in contrast you could be in a car going fast and you don’t even notice it? I would say this setup is the latter….just a little more road noise.

When pumping in slightly turbulent prone conditions, I find the KT can have a mind of its own and gets stuck in a turn that you didn’t initiate and causes me to lose control. I wonder if that’s a mast stiffness issue and if the cedrus would fix that.

I have no such issues downwinding
