Picked up a used 5’6" quiver killer surfboard. Had a couple of prone sessions. Paddles great. Feels nice when up on foil. Some difficulty controlling board when there is more power in the take off. New to using this type of board. Any others used it and can comment on performance getting to feet in more powerful wave conditions?
I have the 5’2 enigma (same shape) , and experience the same when my mast is too far forward.. Don’t think that’s board specific though
Have you found mast back is enough to counteract this in powerful waves or do you opt for a different board?
With the right Foil yes. Again, I don’t think there’s an issue with the board for me. It was just that the Foil was too far forward
yea i find it harder to gen wider boards, but not impossible! the paddling is so much easier and and catching smaller waves is worth the tradeoff
I’ve also got the 5’2" Quiver Killer. I’ve taken it all the way up to head high with a Code 1300s. I ride the mast almost slammed forward. It’s made me start to learn to shift my feet more while riding. Back foot comes forward and I tighten my stance for pumping out. It’s not the easiest, but when I link I need to kick my back foot back mid-link or I don’t have the leverage to control the board, especially at higher speeds.
The thing about boards with more volume is that if the wave has more power it is technically going to put you on foil way faster. Which will feel different than using a lower liter board where there is that moment of maybe planing then being on foil. I had the 5’2 and really enjoyed but the timing when paddling into waves is different because you just dont have to paddle as much. Actually it’s better to almost get a little speed before the wave breaks then let the wave put you on foil.
