I come from a surfing background and have prone foiled for a couple years. I really need to update I’m gear but I’m completely lost on what to buy (Brands, size of wings, boards, everything). I’m probably on the low end of advanced at prone. I ride on really old stuff. A go foil 75cm mast ( that’s weighs a tonne) a GL 140 front wind and an old Casey 5,0 I’m not sure of liter. I surf small to around 6 foot (6 foot Aussie not Hawaii) conditions. Advice please would be great, cheers
Whatever used foil you can find that was released in the last 2 years. They’ll all be better.
Curveball. This guy often has good deals on GoFoil gear in Australia which is where I’m guessing you are.
If you really don’t want to think about it. F4 is the current hotness. To be leapfrogged by a different setup in a couple months I’m sure.
How much do you weigh and what other setups have you ridden?
bouncing on Hdip’s post, anything within the last 2 years, aspect ratio between 7-9ar…
small tail less <14inches
mast >75cm
front wing <930 cm2
fuselage length you need to experiment with….
Code S is the best. Probably being replaced by the F4 orca as the new best.
the 140GL is a classic. You simply will not believe how much things have progressed since then! But be careful, if you’re having fun blissfully unaware of what is possible, getting on the newest gear is going to give you a constant itch for the upgrade every time it comes out
Another thing to note, most of the new high performance gear is going to take a couple sessions to adjust to.
Everything will seem “twitchy” compared to your GF
Hi mate, sorry my account got flagged and I just got it going. I haven’t been on forum before![]()
The guy who taught me is from Newcastle.
I have been trying to study and understand it all, there’s so much to learn and equipment variety
. Thanks for your help.
Hi mate, sorry my account got flagged and I just got it going. I haven’t been on forum before ![]()
I weigh 75kg and have only ridden GL 140 front wind and an old Casey 5.0.
50 litre. Thank you, much appreciated.
Thanks for the advice.
I would get the cedrus forged 72 or 75 mast plus adapter. For your weight… my picks would be either a new Uni evo115 or evo135 w/ short fuse, or a used code s series wing(s).
if you want to heavily focus on DW down the road, go Code. Just prone, Unifoil. The cedrus will allow you to be more brand mobile in the future
Thanks so much for your time. I was thinking about getting 77-77.5 mast. The reason is that on my current setup I find I breech when I’m going fast on bigger waves. I’m unsure whether this will still be a problem on new generation gear compared to GL 140 and old setup? Would like to look at DW also in future. Cheers
The 77+adapter is ~82 cm (according to my buddy that has that one). That’s too long for my taste. Even he switched to a shorter length, he’s an intermediate skilled rider and was having a hard time managing the additional length. I would have to be towing overhead waves to want a mast that long. I ride small Florida waves, so 75-77 total is all that I want. A lot of people love 80cm, but I don’t know any prone riders that like over 80cm. Obviously everyone breaches if they’re pushing it, but it’s hard to say in your case if your breaching issue is a skill or equipment problem without video
Ok got you on all that thanks, and aluminum masts now are basically as good as the good as the carbon? Cheers
Basically is the key word there. They’re not as good. But they’re as good or better than what we all learned on. ![]()
