Anyone else here feels the SFWT(surffoilworldtour) is a great idea, but itās basically wingers who are on the wave tour and rip real hard just towing in and doing jumps on a wave?
I mean these athletes have got massive talent and I do respect them a lot, but doesnāt Foilsurfing deserve waves something else Than doing bunny hops on the shoulder of the wave (w straps), and doing cool 2x1,3x1 connections like Adam Bennets, the dudes in Florida, or the foilers of aloha kinda waves, and many people who rip in everyday (non perfect) waves?
If the future(present) of Foilsurfing is towing in to perfect surfing waves w straps, then might as well surf?
Againā¦ respect to all the athletes, but maybe a surf specific schedule could be done,
Even tho logistics and budget is a real issue, and sponsors would have to do a real effort to get a foilsurf only event going ā¦
I would say thatās because they are just starting. Founded by and back packing the GKA events.
As it starts to get its own reputation they will have people joining that are solely going for the Surf world tour on its own.
But if you are there already doing the wing event then itās a no brainer to jump in.
I would give it time to get its own recognition and for the event to gain traction
Cash went strapless last year. I wonder if anyone else will this year. There are prone foil contests already. There is no media of them though. Whoever puts on a contest with a livestream will be the front runner for sure. I donāt want to troll for media on Instagram.
I remember, that was impressive for sureš
Just this is supposed to be a world tour and not just isolated eventsā¦
I do agree most events must be followed up on riders ig accounts and it doesnāt really allow people remotely to follow up(as bigger budget WSL etc)ā¦
I have no clue how much the live transmition is but a coin for sureā¦ the Tahiti dudes have a contest recently and did a really good job of doing live stream on their ig account
Worthless as I canāt go and search for it. YouTube has a live feature too. Then it can be properly archived. I can rewind. I can watch on any device. Iāll even accept facebook video over Instagram.
Do we really need a prone surf tour? Iām already inundated with great surf foil content via social media. Getting great foilers together is cool to see, but I donāt think a competitive scene would really expand progression of the sport.
As someone who has competed and followed competitive surfing forever, live events are really boring to watch. Natural Selection and Surf 100 were cool spins on a surf contest but largely because the waves were wild and the judging wasnāt score based.
GWA is only slightly more interesting than your average surf contest as the wingers are either up and riding or getting smashed on the inside.
I would like to see some kind of downwind carving contest to see who could surf the longest (slowest) before crossing the āfinish line.ā
It also needs to be a spot where people prone foil.
I was wondering how they were going to take off at ponta Preta as itās impossible to chip in and a full vertical drop to take off on the peak.
Are they running more events or is the surffoilworld tour like the wing wave world tour and just 1 stop?
