Original Carbon Mast, Katana, Progression then Torque. Each one being announced as an improvement in stiffness and overall betterness over the previous one, and now Unifoil pre-releases a High Modulus Katana. Where does that fit in the mast lineup? At the same time, the Torque is out of stock and has been for a while. Why not make another batch of Torques instead?
I don’t know how true it is but I heard that the factory made a mistake and made a bunch of the katana masts in UHM carbon. I wonder if this is their way of getting rid of that inventory.
I left it out on purpose, as this one has a very clear target, with a clear naming. Sacrificing a bit of stiffness for a thinner lower drag foil section. Many brands have a model along those lines. It has its place in the lineup. Confusion is essentially about the other ones.
I use a Katana 83, and I’m totally unsure about what would be a step up. And it’s not even a matter of price. They seem to be in a similar ball park
I feel your pain - I’m in the same boat. What i have managed to confirm is that there’s currently no plans for a HM version of the Torque. I suspect the HM Katana is targeting the guys that want to pump foil the larger Evo wings. Who knows.
The stab lineup has become just as confusing. There is (was) a red G10 3-pack, carbon 3-pack, Progression based on the Shiv from the 3-pack, Afterburner with a 10AR 14’“. And now a Quantum also with 10AR 14”.
I think it’s interesting that the new high modulus Katana 830 mast is $949 witch is hundreds less than the older 80cm high modulus Torque mast
I’m on the hunt for a torque mast at some point. Or I would love a new hm katana if they would make a 75cm version
PS- I used my buddy’s race mast on a progression 140 with the chopped 14.5p tail. That thing felt so slippery. Almost hard to adjust to at first… very fast. I’m 200lbs. My buddy is 150lbs and loves the race mast for prone
