Update on learning

First, thanks to everyone who gave advice and encouragement, on this forum, as well as locals I talked to. You guys are great.

Days 2 and 3 I tried different spots with radically different experience than at Ka’a. Caught waves. Got launched. Got taco-ed.

Video is the third wave I ever caught. More what I expected of first session(s). I also borrowed a sk8 850 and to be honest I don’t think I want anything bigger - I can probably go back to the 750 with the right conditions. The 850 is really hard to keep down even with the mast all the way back. Although partly it’s because my front foot is way too far back. I need to take my front foot strap off so I can get my foot further up more easily. Board size feels good- familiar to me once I’m up because it’s my wing board.

It was fun to get up. Got a sense of what I need to learn. Not going to be easy but no longer feels impossible.

Foot straps when learning prone are a death sentence.

Well done. Stick with it!

Yeah straps have to go.

YEW! Awesome you’re finding out what works for you. You’ve got 7 more sessions of falling to go. Learning how to fall safely on a foil is a very important step.

That wave looks like an amazing foil wave. But for learning it might as well be Mavericks haha. I would look for something half that size or less.

Nice Lee, you sound like in similar boat as me, just getting started. But you’re starting with a much smaller foil. I’m looking for a smaller foil too just to tame that hard bucking bronco. But I’ve had much better luck with learning how to catch the right kind of wave and keep the nose down while also popping up fast. If I try to pop up slowly that just messes things up more as I just don’t quite get to my feet properly. Thats my experience so far 4th session in. Keep it up!
