What is the Maximum Volume Prone Board you can duck dive safely?

What is the maximum volume prone board you are able to duck dive safely in medium sized waves. Looking to get a Midlength prone board but I want to be sure I can duck dive it safely. Please let me know both the volume and length of your board and of course your weight! Thanks in advance and I will start.

I am 68kg, I have an Amos Nitro 4’6 36 liters and I can always duck dive it quite comfortably.

175 lbs. I could just get a 58L KT Arc under white water.

I’m 165 lbs (75 kg) and prone foiling on the Omen Flux boards. No issues duck diving the 4’3” at 36L in any size waves but I can’t really duck dive the 5’2” At 60L.

Can dive a 60L KT SuperK, I’m 90kg.

Been wondering about this too for my next prone/parawing travel board. Am 70kg and can just about get my old AK Phazer 5’0/46l underwater. I guess it depends how often you have to dive in a row as well. Getting out through messy low period beachbreaks with a surfboard of more than 40l gets pretty hard quickly. Then again, take the given volumes with a grain of salt. It seems to me often they just use the blank volume from the CNC file but don’t account for sandwich/laminate which quickly adds several litres more.

I’m 185lbs / 84kg. I can comfortably duck-dive a 55L. In a pinch I can do a 65L in up to chest high surf. But I’ve managed in a few head high sets. I no longer take the 65L out though. That was when I was learning.

The trick on higher-volume boards is to approach the wave at a 45 degree angle then push the nearest rail down first followed by the other one then use your knee/foot on the tail.

I’m about 63kg and can duck dive my 60L Super K using the technique JackA states above, but I would want something smaller if I had to duck dive anything much overhead. That said, if it’s much overhead I’m probably not prone foiling it.

Anyone duck diving prone boards in OH waves is more of a man than me. Imagine that pointy front foil swinging at you. My friend just got badly cut near a critical artery by a front wing tip and he wasn’t even in surf.

Duck diving technique with a foil almost needs a new topic.

A bit different than a surf board.

At 75kg I can do a 5’0 40l in just about anything that has enough depth. I tried my 65L once and it didn’t go well.

Where I have issues is shore breaks and getting caught duck diving a hair too shallow…

I regularly duck 45L up to head high. In shallows with lots of breaking waves I just carry the board over my head until theres a lull and try getting to deeper water. Once deep enough I mad dash to get out . If I time it poorly I kinda just roll sideways and keep both hands on the rails to keep the foil away from me… If I loose forward ground I just deal with it… Def not letting go of the board like I w.ould with a surfboard… I treat the foil and board as first priority instead of my self. Def not letting it go tho. Thats a shitshow
