Winging in Aruba

My old man just retired and booked a windsurfing trip to Aruba. I got the invite so let it blow! I am going to bring some wing gear with me. Has anyone been? Is it relatively shallow on the west side of the island? I’m just trying to figure out which mast to bring.

Have a great weekend everyone :call_me_hand:

I am living in Aruba. What is your skill level? Around shipwrecks (just above Fishermans huts) and Arashi are the main spots where a lot of the winging is done here. You can bring whatever mast size you prefer, the shallow parts you avoid mainly and not worth it to adjust your preference on. See you on the island!

Do you have to walk out far with a 92cm mast?

At most places not a lot further than with a 85 cm mast. Although there are some spots with shallow coral, so you have to watch out a bit better for those. But there are people on a 92cm mast here.

Thanks Hakunamatata! I think we are staying just a bit inland of Fishman Huts. I appreciate the info about depth. I’ll just bring my usual gear. I’m stoked to get down there! I don’t thin in I have ever winged clear water.

Hi Hakunamatata. Is there some waves spots at the island?

Hi Alevorin, there is, but the wave period is from okt-dec and then you have to be lucky. If you search for “Arashi surf Aruba” you can find an impression. In the south there is a bay with some waves as well, but the shape of the bay makes it rather messy/turbulent. But down-wind runs with wing can be really nice here and is what I do mostly! Be sure to bring a AR11+ front wing though.

Thanks Mate! Where do you do your DW runs? Are they long?

South-west side of the island! As long as you like, the runs available are: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 km (this is foil distance, not aerial distance).
