Anyone have experience with this board both for prone and wing?
Thanks
I have the 50L - works great as a smaller wave prone board. I also don’t have any trouble winging it in decent wind.
It paddles fast, but I wouldn’t compare it to a proper downwind board for prone paddle speed. I can catch bigger unbroken waves prone, but I need to paddle very hard.
The boxes are very far forward. I use lift foils and run them towards the back of the boxes.
Interesting that you say the boxes are far forward. I have the predecessor to the skipper DW (last year’s version at 5’7" which was a semi-custom and is higher volume than the current version). I found I needed to put a new tail pad on the board further back than the deck pad originally extended. Felt like the deck pad was too far forward for the volume and I was pearling a lot and my stance wanted to be further back. Works a lot better for me now. I ride the foil further back in the tracks on this board than I do on my other Appletrees.
The pad on the new version feels like its in a good spot - but the board is light enough I prefer my stance to be a bit toward the tail vs dead center so I’ve been pushing the foil further back that other boards.
In general I feel that in the smaller appletree sizes I run to the back of the tracks. (I also have a skipper short, skipper prone, and dw)
This could be a really cool board for parawind DW runs.
I have a Slice V3 50L and even with a forward type of foil, like Axis Advanced+ and Code, I have to run the foil towards the back of the tracks. You’re absolutely right. I don’t think this board would work well with the older Axis fuses for example.
Anyone have any experience with the skipper prone board? I’m over EPS boards.
I like my 50L. Works well in small waves and for winging
Another option is the Omen Flux which is built by Appletree. Mine is over a year old and still looks brand new.
Couple fun freshwater ankle biters on the 50L the other day. Fyi, sounds like there’s an updated shape for the Appletree next year and more sizes.
