Axis Foil Reviews:

Reading a common complaint is pitch control with some of the axis stuff, I guess I’ve been struggling with this too, but thought maybe it was just a foiling thing more generally. Specifically 880 I find it is very difficult to track a smooth turn, with continuous over correction up and down.

What is the way to tune for this? Seemingly peculiar to axis as I don’t see this as being as much of an issue as a complaint with other brands.

I realised when looking at clips it seems pretty consistent, on the regular cutback I can manage the breach that occurs when I get bounced up but on backhand I always end up breaching the tip as going down. This didn’t seem to be an issue on the ART and I guess expected it on PNG. The BSC810 that I rode was really smooth in the pocket…

The hand waving is the giveaway that I’m fighting it, and I do a lot of hand waving

Edit: is this a common thing with any other specific foil lines? How do I smoothen this out without drastically changing the pump characteristics

Edit: Some advice from Facebook, longer fuse (I’m on the Ultrashort Advance, so can’t go longer), bigger tail (on 325p), tail angle? Will try some things

I really wish there was an Axis rep remotely close to where I live so I could demo some different foils. I’m sure I’d actually spend more money as I’d know what I was getting instead of hoping that reading every possible review online will lead me to the right foil.

I saw you say SC in another post. Is that South Carolina? I know there are reps in Florida. But if you just email Evan from AXIS I’m sure he’d send you demo wings. He’s sent me his own foils for demo before. If you don’t like it you pay shipping back. If you do like it he sends you an invoice.

That would be great for us in Maine with no dealers.

Thanks Hdip. I have traded a few emails with Evan regarding other things in the past but I’ll reach out to see if he might be able to send me the 910b & 880.

Hi, any feedback on the axis power mast HM? Riding on 19mm alu mast (prone & wing), thinking of switching to the new carbon mast but I heard mixed reviews about it. Would be glad to get first hand unbiased feedback!

maybe its time you try the progression wing on your axis mast

i was expecting to get unbiased advice  Quite happy with the axis stuff so far, offers a great diversity of wings for prone/wing/pumping/DW. Open to try new gear but never seen anybody riding with unifoil in my area (France), so no chance to test for the time being.

This Axis mast to Uni-Foil Fuse adapter is great and well priced!
Makes me wonder how the Uni-Foil Katana mast, Unifoil alu mast, the Axis Power HM mast And the Axis alu mast compare??

Google indexed a new webpage before it got removed.

Really hoping to see some leaks of a surf wing in action soon I love my axis gear but some of these other brands are looking very appealing the temptation is real haha.

Nice find Matt.

I’m in the same boat as Westcoastfoiler. I am impatiently waiting for a surf-focused front wing and the longer it goes, the better the Unifoil/North gear starts to look.

I agree, I’m personally not thrilled with Axis obsession with these huge ART and PNG wings, Im patiently waiting for a new surf/mid aspect with that all the other brands have now released. I’m becoming very close to buying the Axis Unifoil adapter and switching to Unifoil if it seems like Axis is only going to continue into these massive high aspect pump and downwind wings.

Yeah I’m getting a bit of foil envy with the likes of the progression, code and f-one now looking so appealing for prone surfing and pumping even downwind, fingers crossed axis has something that fits this space coming soon.

I got myself out of that boat :joy:

It would seem sensible that something will come out and if it does I’ll be in a better position to critique it having a solid baseline to compare it against. I don’t think a better foil than an HPS880 is hard to achieve which was partly why I wanted some perspective.

The one on the right maybe I’m guessing the one on the left is the new larger art.

I abandoned Axis a couple months ago. I used to ride them as they are cheap, durable, and have lots of components that they WERE constantly innovating.

Unfortunately, as others have stated, they basically stopped innovating (publicly) for the past year and seem to have abandoned prone foiling entirely and are now apparently focused on Euros doing flat lake pumping and other bizarre sports.

I switched to Uni and it’s better in every way (except price) and simply by changing gear my foiling improved about 30% immediately.

In retrospect I wish I had switched out of Axis years ago to a premium wing (Lift HA, Takuma, Cabrinha HA, Uni). Axis is fine for winging and great for hardcore pump fetishes but not great for prone.

This instagram refers to a proto surf wing: Dave west on Instagram: "Dodging and weaving tourists. Autumn has finally settled in. Lots of offshore mornings and cool winds. Absolutely love this combo. Can’t wait for you to try it out. Surf was pretty tiny and super weak - in bigger waves it’s even better! Proto surf wing 300p tail 82 power carbon Advance crazy short"

So it appears Axis may not have totally ditched prone, hopefully it releases soon!

Oceanpixels released an edit with it today on IG

Yep this really sells it for me Dave’s probably closer to my ability but dam Jeremy makes it look bloody good
