I currently own the following Axis wings looking for some advice on where to go next (fireball/surge/etc)
Art Pro 1401/1201 - My most commonly used wings. 1401 on knee high or smaller waves, 1201 on anything bigger. Routinely get 10-15 minute runs linking waves
Art 1099 - Use this on my foil drive on bigger days
Spitfire 1160/1100 - Use this on days the waves are peaky and plentiful (short period). I can’t pump for long but I can ride for 10 mins + if the waves are close enough.
I also own the Art Pro 1051 and Spitfire 960 but the wings are just too small for me I hardly ever get to use them. I’m 85kg.
I’ve been checking out the Fireball 1350 with some interest, until today when I learned that the new Surge wings don’t require a new mast or fuselage. The other wing I thought of trying was the Art Pro 1121 but it’s quite a step down from the 1201.
I really prioritize time up pumping and linking waves over turning. I only SUP Foil using a downind board (Armstrong 7’7x20x121 liters).
Just wanted to see if someone could help point me in the right direction. Thanks!
No.matter what don’t get the art pros they have terrible pump, glide, turning, low end, you name it. In fact there’s never been a worse release from axis than the art pro smaller than the 1201 which was one of my favorite wings. Sounds like you’re doing great, but I would look into the larger orcas by f4 if you’re really looking to take your pump game to the next level. Or the fireball (copy of code R) as the other poster suggested.
The Fireballs serve the same purpose as the Art Pros. They should turn better and have a lot more low end. They can be sized down for more speed, turning compared to the Art Pros.
I haven’t ridden a Surge. They’re supposed to have more low end and maybe a bit less top end than the Art V2. They also have a slight mustache shape so might be a departure from standard Axis feel. They’ll probably release bigger sizes, but could be sized down compared to an Art V2.
Thanks yeah that is the advice I was hoping for! Fireball is a similar purpose as the Art Pro’s as I don’t want to lose my pump and glide but want a touch more turning and low end.
The Fireball 1250 is a great size, good turning and easier to ride than the 1350 if you’re not used to wide span wings. In stronger conditions I drop to the Fireball 1070.
My house mate rides axis, he has just got on a surge 830 and is ripping. He is clearing house and is looking to own a small surge and a large surge and a down wind set up (fire ball). He is clearing all his arts and spit fire. Surge is a great balance of pump and turn (his words).
They’re a sick looking wing and are definitely one of the better axis releases
