AXIS Range - Which foil combo to provide most lift for over than 100kg/220lbs guys pump foiling?

Hi,
Which foil combo to provide most lift for over than 100kg/220lbs guys pump foiling, doing 1min to 10min pump seshs ?
mast
stab
fuselage
foil
what would be your pick ?

Have they made a better pump foil than the PNG 1150 yet?

1150 is easy and good low end, but not all that efficient.

1300 is a nice step up bit less low end but less draggy.

1401 is more efficient than 1300 but is less forgiving and higher stall speed. At least I can pump it much longer than 1150.

Unsure about the largest Fireballs but may be comparable to 1401

I have been making progress with a png 1310 / 460 pump stab / standard fuse / 750 hmc carbon mast at 200lbs. I started with an advanced short, and the standard is so much more stable and easy to use. The 1310 will stall out due to pitch sensitivity more easily than other foils I’ve tried, but it’s big.
Also tried the 1300v2/ advanced crazy short / 362/50 skinny. It’s not as lifty, but feels close. (2080 vs 1632 sqcm)
I’ll buy the 1701 or 1699 or whatever axis releases for pumping unless it requires the $2200 carbon mast.

Back to back test between the FB1350 and ART1401, I’m 80kgs, Foildrive, ultrashort fuselage and skinny 30 mounted on the ultra mast.

The extra drag of the 1401 is obvious when you’re pumping on the flat, if it starts to slow it is hard to get it back up to speed. The 1350 digs out really well, if you put your mind to it you can get it back up to speed.

The 1401 is definitely harder to turn and tends to go into the spiral of death easier than the 1350. I can play with swell lines on the 1350 but the 1401 really gets knocked around and becomes difficult to control.

I just bought a PNG1150.
There are super good discounts as now the red fuse is discontinued by Axis!

It remains the easiest wing to launch (to docks start).
Probably also the easiest to pump (very forgiving).
But it’s not efficient, as in, even with good technic, it’s not a wing on which you will go fast, or last long.

yes this is a problem everyone notices about the PNG1310, it will stall if the pitch is exagerated and drop like a stone. The question is how to reduce this from happening? standard 756mm fuse? big stab?

I started with the advanced short, and didn’t get far. I’m over 10 seconds with the standard, it seems to help stabilize it, and when winging, seems to make turns super easy comparatively, but I haven’t tried the adv red short in a while.
I was thinking of getting a 1150, but have been making progress, so I’m sticking with the 1310 for now.

The 1300 v1 is miles better than the 1150

There’s this knockoff of the 1700 Axis didn’t release.

I’d buy that from axis immediately, but not from a company stealing the design and making it as cheaply as possible. I’ve heard those foils snap under load, especially relevant with that span.

For a foil of the span you’d probably need the ultra hm mast which is a huge rip off. Also I have both the 1300 and 1401. And as an semi advanced rider, the 1401 was way too sensitive and hard to ride due to the span. 1700 would be a nightmare. They are for very dedicated pump foilers. I would recommend the 1300 v1 as the first foil you ride 2+ minutes on then start upgrading to the 1400-1700 versions.

1300 with skinny tail is money

What size skinny tail?

  1. 365 is good too. makes it a hair more difficult to take off but its much easier to dig out of a hole and faster

actually i’m finding the 1150 the easiest of all, and liftier than i thought; 1310(i’m selling) and 1401(needs speed but cool foil). i’m using fuselage red short. i’ switch between the stab 440 and 460 pump; but stab 440 feels easier.

Any updates from earlier posts for 2026?. Im a 100kg rider. Pumping with the Jam 1900 however i’ve already snapped M6 bolts three times!? Im considering the Axis fatty adapter for my cedrus mast and the PNG 1400. Any other recomendations on sturdy pumpfoil /light wind setups? Cheers, Matt

As promised, I did immediately purchase the axis 1750 + 80cm fatty mast + 520cm fatty fuse. I’ve been out pumping 4x with it since January, and passed a minute today - (according to my gps watch, no video). I started foiling at 100kg now I’m at 87kg.

The 1300v2 is 2x the ease of launch, 2x the stability, 2x the turning radius sharpness, and 2x the drag. My longest run was 40 seconds.

The 1750 is 2x the glide, and 1.2x the speed. It’s sharp and cuts through the water very easily. It felt like I have hope to make the minute, and I did after ~2000 career starts.

Tails
To make things more challenging, I do a no-step start off a quad folding ladder. I initially tried with the skinny 362/50 tail, but decided to try the 460 pump tail. That gave me the stability I needed to start >30% of my runs, and helped me get high on the mast. When I’m more comfortable with it, I’ll start to size down my tails.

Fatty Mast
Both foils improvements from the fatty mast. Way more direct, way more efficient, way more punishing. The foil will kick you off if you make a mistake, not bend. There seems to be a small penalty winging the fatty vs the HMC, but it’s likely mental.

Winging
I also took it up in 8-10kt winds with a 2.5m wing and 98L 5’4" x 27", and it pumped up and flew just fine. Same wing in 50F 14-18kt winds, 145L 8’2" x 23" board, and my heart rate stayed so slow I had to quit from getting cold.

I do not recommend it for winging or trying to learn DW, because it’s very long and sharp. I was 1" away from a very bad time, and after that I ejected from my board to keep clear. It does turn, but not in a way I found enjoyable winging. I would take the 1310 out on a light wind day, and if the wind is low, I’d rather pump it than wing it.
