I wanted to share a recent mishap and see if anyone else has run into something similar.
I was riding my Takuma Nolimitz V2 mast with a Foilparts F-One adapter.
The adapter was secured with two A4 stainless screws.
That said, I have to admit I didn’t disconnect the adapter, change the screws, or rinse them for over a month.
During a session, mid-carve, I lost my balance.
When I climbed back onto the board, I felt something was loose.
I flipped everything over and realized my front wing was spinning like a helicopter blade, with the center screw being the only one still holding the F-One fuselage and adapter to the Takuma mast…
Luckily, I didn’t lose the wing and managed to get back to shore without breaking anything.
Should I have been changing the screws? Or taking the adapter apart more often?
Says in the Foilparts instructions to replace the screws regularly as they stretch and snap. Also don’t use wings greater than 1200sqcm.
It’s a poor design that places all the load on the screws, but nothing Foilparts can do as it’s all they have to work with.
Buy a heap of high quality screws and replace them every few sessions.
stringy has much more rigid connectors compared to foil parts. the stringy ones have a skirt and adds drag, but looks like to be much more of a safer connection. foil parts looks smooth and streamlined, but then something catostrophic happens, thanks for confirming what i was also curious about with the stringy vs foilparts difference
