Sounds awesome…I had dreams …then I tried a wing up deflate down. Deflated and ended up with a waterlogged wing and torn bag. Extra weight sloshing around on my back prevented a paddle up…cured of those dreams. F that S***.
This is for those of superhuman athletic abilities, who can get by on 1 foil in all conditions… whose balls don’t chafe…whom also don’t need food or hydration…and have infinite resistance to hypothermia.
Funny how this now with 3 piece paddle and 2 parawings a few 80 mile days makes this seem entirely plausible for a pro. Edo mentioned he’d like to do something like this, fishing and waterfalls etc in Hawaii.
Found it. 210 Nm, 16 legs, self-supported. Sounds epic! That said, I think he started on Aug 9 and thus far the map only shows one leg completed. Ive been to some of these places and they are gorgeous and the wind can be insane. The distances are pretty manageable.
Starting from Asimakis Beach on the Attica coast, we’ll ride the summer meltemi south-east through the heart of the Cyclades — Kea, Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Antiparos, Paros, Naxos and the Small Cyclades — then out across the long, lonely crossings past Amorgos and tiny Levitha into the Dodecanese: Kalymnos, Kos, Nisyros, Tilos and Halki, before the final run in to Rhodes.
Sixteen open-water legs, beach to beach — and a fully unsupported expedition. No shore crew, no following boat: just the two of us, travelling with only what we can carry on our backs. Wings, foils, boards and dry bags come along for every crossing. Where a landing beach and the next launch beach are on opposite sides of an island, we cross overland (taxi drivers of the Aegean, we have your numbers).
Ah cool. Thank you! Yes likewise I feel like it’s pretty ideal place to do it, I can imagine some pretty unpredictable winds on the wrong side of islands, but on the whole pretty good place to try it. I can’t imagine a wing is the right approach given what you can do with 2x parawing. Also I wondered given it’s mostly a port tack on a wing how much fun it would be if you were a goofy foot who couldn’t ride switch
