Has anyone here tried both foils and can give a size comparison? Thinking of getting a Code S series, but not sure what size.
For reference I currently have a 950 and 750 sk8 which covers me in all conditions for proning and winging on the East Coast of FL. Both paired with xxxs 160 tail.
I’m looking to get code wings that will have similar lift/power as my 950 sk8. I know they say you can size down with the code wings but is that really the case? Mainly deciding between the 850 and 980.
Can’t compare to f-one but I’ve ridden most of the S series sizes.
I recently downsized my quiver from 720s/980s/1300s to 615s/850s/1130s @70kg in east coast Australia conditions mostly SUP and Wing.
What’s your weight and standard size range/energy you’ll be riding in?
77 kilo, low energy thigh to head high waves, 10 sec period, 15 when it’s good.
In those conditions either will work! I think it will also depend if you plan on building a quiver of code foils or just hoping for 1 that does it all.
I think the 980s is probably codes best all round wing out of their whole range it blends great pump with surprisingly good turning and handles a really good range of energy. It will have more low end than the 850s but also handle “bigger” florida conditions.
Having said that if you’re a decent prone foiler and already linking multiple waves the 850s will also work fine and give you a bit more top end for the winging side of things with better turning.
Can’t really go wrong with either paired with a 142AR or 150AR stab (and fuse length that suits your style)
I’d be having a think about if you will end up with 2 or 3 foils and just pick the one that will gap nicely with the other to cover all your conditions.
