Is there any one out there who has ridden both and can give a comparison? Seem very similar size wise
Not similar at all. Omen rides much smaller than the number suggests. Code rides much larger than the number suggests.
Both can be used for the same purpose.
So not much low end on the operator then?
Both Operators has great low end. This foil was ahead of its time.
It easily rivals newer foils in that range like the KT830 and the AFS Pure 900.
Its stall behavior is the more elegant out of those 3 foils in how gradual it is.
By saying it rides much smaller than the number suggest I think he meant
how responsive it is to rider input.
It would be a great one quiver foil for a 170 rider
I second foilpatrol. Good lowend and smooth stalling behavior.
I have the omen, but also a code 1300. The fuse size difference between these two brands is pretty massive side by side (this is me making the assumption the smaller codes have the same fuse dimensions as the 1300). The added wetted surface drag from the much larger code fuse is likely a material part of overall drag for the smaller sizes at higher speeds. That might also have been what was meant by saying the omen rides smaller than the 850 code
Yeah sort of hard to explain. The omen 850 is like a better lift ha90 in a way. A small foil that can rip turns in the surf.
The omen 1050 would be a better comparison to the code 850s but even then I’d say the 1050 should be compared to the 720s.
It’s almost as if the omen operator 850 and 1050 are two different lines though. 1050 will cover a lot of mistakes in technique. The 850 you have to be more on your game.
It’s almost as if the omen operator 850 and 1050 are two different lines
In a way it is if we are to go by how other companies categories their foils (AR)
It’s too bad more people didn’t get on these foils. I still claim they are the best foils for winging hands down. The foils are designed for even foot pressure no matter the speed. I’d say they achieved that design goal.
You know how people say “make the iPhone in the USA and I’ll pay the extra cost.” I think we have seen that’s a lie now.
I hear ya. If they’d partnered with Cedrus rather than NoLimitz I think it would have helped their
adoption. That Stainless still fuse bolted directly on the Cedrus mast would have been the strongest / efficient connection on the market.
So the Omen 1050 is closer to the Code 850s rather than something like the Sk8 1050 or Silk 1050?
I have not ridden the sk8 or silk so can’t compare that way unfortunately.
I’m basing this solely on how it feels to prone foil them btw. I weigh 175lbs and am 6’1" Riding the 36L Omen Flux with them. I’m not a guy who stays up in the surf for more than 2 minutes a run. I connect 2-3 waves and paddle back to the peak.
If I was to ride code I would definitely be getting a 720s, not the 850s.
Foiling is so personal depending on what you like to do that it’s hard to compare to others.
The Omen 1050 is a different beast. At the time I bought it, I was using the F-one Seven Seas 1200, Eagle 890 and the Phantom 1480 for light wind.
The 1050 is as high performance as the Eagle 890 but a little looser, it had a low end closer
to the 1480 and the ease of use of the SS1200. It took me a little while to adapt as it is super
responsive in comparison to those wings, I can whip it around better the 890.
It handles speed with ease and because of the monster low stall speed it was very forgiving.
My friend who was riding the Lift 120HA took it a couple of times and he was super impressed
that he could pull similar moves to his 120.
You do hit a wall when it comes to pump and glide in comparison to those HA wings.
If you travel and limited in space this is the foil to guaranty time on the water no matter what.
I think that sums up the range of this foil. I’m about 190 riding sinker boards (60-75L)
I borrowed the omen 850 this summer for couple days. It’s definitely the most pitch stable foil that I have ridden with a really loose roll for turns. It was really fun to wing on but it felt a little small for me while prone foiling some weak summer waves here in New Jersey. I’m 6 foot 185 pounds. I have not tried the code but I have heard good things.
