FLITELab* what are your thoughts

No worries Dylan, appreciate the podcasts. Not your fault that all things FlightLAB must come with a massive hype tease. I suspect that if you do one day receive a Flight LAB board that you will be required to post about your session 3 days in advance otherwise it will be inoperable. FlightLAB seems to be 100% fueled by hype. :winking_face_with_tongue:

No reason to price it like that when a Foil Drive alone is 5k+ and that price doesn’t seem to be slowing many people down

Yes it won’t be 10K, we haven’t released a price list yet as like everyone else we are navigating the tariffs. Due to the every changing landscape in the world atm our offical statement is going to be July to be safe. Things are changing daily atm and have changed since recording the podcast. In the coming month we will announce the exact date.

Can’t wait to get this out there!! it’s been one hell of a journey but hopefully once people ride the boards and foils they will all think it was worth the wait.

The Jet board:

  • Features a jet built directly into the board.
  • Designed to fit within the thickness of a standard prone board (around 3 inches thick).
  • :star:The jet and its components are part of a removable cartridge system.
  • Chris’s prototype aimed for about 10 seconds of thrust; final version achieved ~18 kilos of thrust.
  • Goal: feel as close to a prone board as possible.
  • Cartridge unit holds motor, electronics, and batteries.
  • Total cartridge weight: 4.2 kilos (2.2 for motor/electronics, 2 for two 1-kilo batteries).
  • Weight sits over the front foil to reduce swing weight and help pumping/trimming.
  • Uses travel-size batteries (1 kilo each) for easier flying.

  • Must use Flight Lab board due to integrated jet/battery cavity.
  • Boards support any foil brand (bolt-on).

The Amp mast:

  • Similar design to Foil Drive, with a motor on the mast.
  • Not available at launch; still under development.
  • Uses custom-designed motors and ESCs (electronic speed controllers).
  • :star:Battery fits into the same cavity as the jet cartridge.
  • Uses the same travel batteries (1 kilo each) as the jet board.
  • Cartridge can hold 2, 3, or 4 batteries depending on desired weight and runtime.
  • A single large battery option will be available (not for travel); targets ~1 hour of runtime.
  • Motor placement still being finalized—goal is to integrate into the mast as high as possible to reduce drag.
  • Safety features built into Launchpad: detects falling or unsafe board angles and can shut off motor.
  • Uses custom-designed propellers.
  • Development challenges include balancing torque, diameter, wetted area, and safety.

Flight Lab Foils & Mast:

  • Foil line developed with Adam Bennett.
  • Focus on mid-aspect ratio foils (~8.5:1) for surf performance, low-end lift, and low stall speed.
  • Foil section offers great low speed, strong top end, and :star:naturally sheds speed in flats​:star:—helps with roll rate and staying in the pocket.
  • Launch foils: 707, 808, and 1010 (named after drum machines).
  • Mast: ultra-high modulus carbon, solid laminate for stiffness.
  • Mast-to-front wing uses :star:titanium fittings​:star:—loose fit until bolts are tightened, relying on bolt tension for stiffness. No need to remove tail when swapping front wings.
  • Launch tail: carbon fuse tail, shimable to adjust foil angle, compatible with other brand tails.
  • Initial mast lengths: 82cm and 87cm.
  • Chris prefers 82cm for balance between turning and shallow water use.
  • Amp mast length is currently ~85cm.

I like the modularity. Need to see some videos. I’d love if the whole setup was hackable, modular and could be used in DIY boards. Seems like a great system.

I think the general idea that you need to just need a boost to get onto lumps matches what I think the future of foiling is about.

This definitely has me hyped! I enjoy paddling into waves and the positioning that comes with it. This will just make it more enjoyable.

Also, the parawinging aspect will be next level. Prone board for sure in most conditions where I’d need a mid-length or bigger and need a potentially oversized PW.

How long before shapers start making trench boards for this? Seems like it could be a killer option for the DIYers out there, if FliteLab will be so kind as to sell the jet as a stand-alone.

Amp aside… The wings are absolutely insane. I was lucky enough to try the 707: game c+±changer. Bennets knows what he’s doing. Believe the hype.

Where does Flite manufacture their foils? Wondering about impact of tariffs for US customers.

Thailand.

The raw board is ridiculously light - I’d bet lightest on the market.
The shim and stab system is very well designed.
The mast at 82 cm will cover almost everything prone and tow
The Glide on the 707 absurd for its surf-foil performance. So much so that I’m super excited for the (pendind) 606 at 85kg for tow boogie and towing
707 will be the new daily driver for most. Annoying that it’s this good but hats off Adam who has tried and tested everything else. Honestly this is going to set the benchmark for foiling as the ‘new surfing’.
Of all the combos I got to try, the 707, 4’0 raw, medium fuse and (I think) 140-ish stab was incredibly accessible and high performance (‘let me get away with murder’) and will replace a large part of the range of afs, lift and code foils ive owned and loved. No idea how it is for wing and dw etc but for surf this is it.
