For (ex) Kujira 1095 owners

The Kujira 1095 was a foil ahead of its time, and I still ride it. Love the way it pumps. You can go down deep in the pump without stalling, as if it were a thick foil, but is actually relatively thin with pretty decent speed for its size. Turns pretty well too.

Which of the more recent foils would you say is most similar, but better (maybe with a bit more glide)?

AFS Enduro seems to be highly praised but I don’t like the way it pumps. Silk I haven’t tried, maybe it’s the one? Any other suggestions from other brands?

I loved the 1095. I love the Silks now. Same DNA, evolved foil sections and dimensions, 10000% better connection system. I think the improvement of the connection system alone would dramatically improve the 1095. I think the Enduro pumps very well, but its a different beast with that span. Silk doesn’t pump as well as the Enduro, but I think the 1050 pumps well enough.

has anyone chopped the winglets off any of the kujiras and did that mess them up? also, will the 1095 be better on the no limitz mast with the super short fuse( that foil parts sells)? thanks.

the 980/kd maui tail still a pretty good combo even in small waves with the foil drive…someone said to mast plate shim it thicker up front…gotta try that next

The Kujira mast to fuse connection wasn’t ideal, but the major issue was was the terrible wing to fuse connection, which no mast will solve. Some have permanently epoxied the wing to fuse connection, which is probably the best path towards optimizing performance of the setup.

I never chopped the winglets on my 1095, but I did sand them down and it had no impact.

I use Kparts connections with the Kujira, pretty stiff setup.

Imo the Enduro’s pumping lacks at slower speeds. The Kujira 1095 otoh has that low-end pumping ability that allows one to recover from crazy bad situations

It feels similar to the axis fireball 1070. Surprisingly similar. Not the same, but really close.

I remember Erik saying they drew inspiration from certain foils when originally designing the progression wings and that’s one of the wings he was riding at the time… I have been on both. Have you tried the progression 140 or the evo wings?

The TK1095 was my daily driver for prone foiling for about a year before I replaced it with a Lift 150HAX. The Lift 150 got replaced with the Axis Fireball 1070.

The only real improvement the Lift 150HAX had over the TK1095 was a more robust connection system. I got tired of replacing broken bolts and shimming the TK1095 foil to fuse connection.

I agree that the Fireball 1070 (877 sqcm) feels similar to the T1095. The glide on the FB1070 is greatly improved, less effort to pump around. I can also ride bigger waves with the FB1070. The FB1070 turns pretty good, but not quite as good as the TK1095. For prone foiling, I wanted to prioritize pumpability over carveability. Both are easy to grave dig.

Never ridden Unifoils, I’m in Europe they arrive with a premium over here so rare to see one.

Hmm ok. In no particular order, Armstrong, Uni and Code are top 3 in my area

Sorry to burst your bubble, but compared to a Code S which came out in 2023 and is still very relevant, the Kujira is junk. Yes it was very good at the time, especially when paired with a KD tail and tuned with shims, and perhaps would still be good with adjustible fuses, and paired with a good mast.. But the foil itself is flexy and weak. Mine leaked, flexed, poked, ventilated, and finally snapped in half. I recommend you demo as everything is pretty good, but all feel different.

No bubble, I own and have tried many other foils, including Code.

To be clear, I’m talking Kujira 1095 (other sizes were lower aspect), and front wing only.
