Woofie - One day well be in the same area dude - I’d love to try the code mast with the 850s!
Did he sent you a 3D pict of the adapter ? If so can you share it ?
Or maybe send pictures when you receive it ?
Ah ok, my bad. I understood that you ordered a adapter from AFS mast to Lift wing.
FWIW I can absolutely feel the difference between the M2 and classic. The M2 just feels more solid underfoot, especially once the wings get wide. I notice it most when I breach wingtips, the stiffer mast (and newer HM wings) don’t seem to buck me off
93k prone rider here. I have the 150HAX with the 28” M2. Came from the classic. What a huge difference. Feels more consistently engaged. Killer combo for small waves. Also ride it with the 120HA on occasion
Seems there’s a weight/wingspan at some point where high modulus becomes a major benefit. My coworker weighs 68kg and passed on the M2 because he didn’t notice much difference from the classic. He mostly rides the 130X, so same wingspan as the 150HAX.
Have you compared the AFS 75 UHM to Lift M2? I ride NLv2 78 with the Lift foot and got to do a quick demo of the AFS 75 UHM with Silk 1050, I loved it! Now I’m wondering if I should upgrade to Lift M2 or AFS UHM (probably with a custom adapter for Lift wings, possibly switching to AFS wings).
I wouldn’t recommend using a different brand mast with another foil. I have the uhm afs mast and if I wanted to use ie a code front wing, I would not use the uhm + adapter. I would go with the cheaper non uhm code mast if I had the choice. There is 100 possible things that can and will go wrong when you try to use adaptors. Any possible gain will be offset by the 100 issues you create by using the adaptor. I’ve wasted a couple thousand bucks trying this. The only time I think it makes sense would be if your og mast is so crap that anything is better. For example, the takuma hd 2 mast is just so mediocre that a direct nlv2 will make it way better.
I decided to go with a NL v2 Lift as opposed to the M2. This decision was based purely on economics. For me the NL was significantly cheaper than the Lift.
I don’t have a measurement, but the NL is definitely heavier than the Lift. That added weight will affect certain activities that are weight sensitive…prone/ DW.
I mostly DW.
The lift also has no corrosion concerns. The NL requires love and care. You can’t leave it laying around assembled.
If money was no object I’d probably go Lift M2. But for me the performance difference didn’t outweigh the cost.
The ride difference going from the classic mast to NL is night and day when DW the 150. The amount of control you gain. You will unleash new turns, and not get constant unexpected ejections. You may even be able to get the tips out. Whatever you do ditch that classic mast to unleash new riding.
Hi
I’m yet to try my new uhm 75 as only just got hold of it.
There is no direct comparison of M2 TO AFS for me as there are no adapters between these systems.
I exclusively prone and tow, usually decent waves here in Bali, and am in the water most days
I started on Lift and moved to AFS but still occasionally use my lift gear when the conditions are uninspiring for surf foil and I want to mess around a bit or test/compare gear. From my personal experience and for my uses, the AFS gear stands out and absolutely shines.
The direct mast comparison between lift M2 and NLV2 gave me very conclusive results. And I would put the AFS (both 80 and 85) in a category above; no doubt the 75 is going to be on that level (just looking at it side by side its so thin and narrow, assume more than stiff enough)
I’d highly recommend biting the bullet and moving to AFS if that’s a longer term option. Lift is great too, but the AFS gear is another level of excitement for me.
