Hey there, new to the forum. I’ve been on Cabrinha foils since I started winging about a year ago. First a 1600 then 1200HA. Looking for advice on if it’s worth continuing with them. I want to go smaller, but not a lot of used options, and it’s been a few years since they have made any updates, and new stock seems to be dwindling. I like them, but don’t really have much to compare them to.
Hey Chris, it seems there aren’t. a whole lot of folks using the cab foils. I’ve posted in the past inquiring about tuning, use for DW sup, and such, and haven’t gotten much response back. I AM using the Cab gear, though the only reason I am was that I got all of my gear used at at least half retail. That said, I really like the H1000 wing, the mk2 h1050, and the h850. I use the h1300 for marginal sup DW conditions, and I just acquired a used (but new)short fuse to experiment with that wing for flat water paddle-ups. I use the h1050 for better SUP DW and wing, and the h850 for nuking DW. I use the Hollow 74 mast for all the wings, though I have the older carbon masts as well. Overall–I really like the foils, and believe they are high-performers, though perhaps not as user-friendly as the slightly newer brands offerings (Armstrong HA, KT, AFS, Code, Uni Evolution, etc).
I heard that Cabrinha’s newest offerings to come may not be compatable with current gear, so keep that in mind when considering investment and resale.
Im in the same boat as you. I have the h800, h1000, and h1200. All of them fun. But just not enough info or community to share insights with others. For now they work great for me in my limitied skillset. Im going to wait awhile and really use them up before I jump to something brand new. Kinda hard to invest in new/used gear unless it comes along quite cheap.
If I were you I would definitely try to pick up a 1000, 850, or 1050. Especially on the second hand market, they can be very affordable. I have found success finding sellers on fb marketplace far away and asking them to ship.
As for choice. Depends on your skill and what you are looking to do.
- If just flat water or steeper swell, ha1000 super fun and turns great.
- Trying to ride / link small → medium windswell, go for the 1050
- Higher wind or tad bit bigger bumps, 850 is amazing.
I only got demo a uni evolution this year, and didn’t find it good enough to warrant 1600$ for a new plane. So I ended up picking up mkii 1050, 850, 700. Two of those sizes I got for 350$ each including fuse and tail. So there is definitely something to be said for the bang for your buck you get. Thanks to cabs’ lack of name recognition in the foil market.
What mast do you ride? If you are on the older noodle masts, maybe not worth staying on the system? Not sure
Dang I did pass up on a 1050 on fb for pretty cheap. I thought it might be too similar to my h1000 or h1200. I do get the sense cab gear might be under appreciated as Im really enjoying mine. I can see why people get swayed by influncers. You see guys ripping on other gear and start to wonder…
I do agree about finding other cab wings on fb.
I would also recommend a foilparts rear fuselage and try messing around with stabilizers from different brands. Ive had alot of luck playing with different characteristics of these foils with other bits and pieces
I’m still on the AL masts. Been kinda just waiting for a good deal on the carbon to pop up used.
Definitely good to look for a classic cedrus too to keep your options open in the future.
The 19mm thickness hasn’t bothered me for the shorter length masts
Totally agree…they ARE good foils, just don’t seem have the “hype” factor that a lot of newer stuff has.
The change between the older h1000, and the h1050 is pretty significant. Get one of you can–you’ll appreciate the differences, IMO
The hollow carbon is a much stiffer mast than the older carbon, and way more slippery than the alu masts. They come up used as well
I have been riding the h1000 h850 and mostly the h700 great foils. Although they are a couple of years old that still work as good as the latest foils on the market.
I think the h850 paired with the chopshop tail (not modified) is the most playful, and the h700 is really efficient it is my daily driver for winging from light wind flat water to waves strong wind and freestyle.
The old alum mast is super stiff and heavy but has some drag compared to the carbon masts. Don’t buy a first gen carbon masts it’s too flexible.
This year Cabrinha has a collaborated with Mikes lab foils and will launch a new line of foils that won’t work with the current system…
I weight 60kg dry for comparison
Thanks for all of the advice, everyone! I’m gonna hold on to what I have but also picked up a Lift full setup, with a Florence 130 wing, to experiment with.
