Second coming of christ-level F4 hype. Its like drinking from a fire hose and Im starting to get fatigued. New gamechangers every week. I was curious myself, but feeling like Im being sold the new hot thing over and over has given me kind of an aversion. I get it - you spent $7000 on kit and now you need to drink the Kool Aid - but chill out a little! So until I finally try a setup Im throwing the hype (not the foils) into the room!

Foil podcasts falling victim to becoming obsessed with one brand/product instead of giving objective reviews. I think it’s important to be able to call out the good and bad of a product regardless of the brand.
Also, companies using attractive women to sell foils when it’s pretty obvious they’re beginners and can barely pump. This is NOT directed at the lovely woman who DO rip …I’m talking about the very attractive girls who are clearly beginners at foiling, yet companies seem to think we care what they’re riding or what they think about a foil.
The continued price creep is another one. A few years ago, $800 was about the most expensive foil, and $800 was about the most you’d pay for a mast. Now look at where we are. What the hell is happening?
And finally, reviewers leaving opinions/reviews without disclosing their affiliations, sponsorships, free product, etc. I also think reviewers should reference their skill/experience level. If you’re telling everyone a certain brand is the “best,” but you can’t pump for more than 20 seconds, that’s pretty important context for people to know.

Neither have I, but I do still use it constantly to know exactly where to put my back knee when remounting my board with the PW flying as I go straight from swimming to my knees and it’s quite nice to have for this.

Podcasts / insta latching onto anything new and just beating it into the ground for months on end, i.e. F4, Foildrive, parawing, etc. as some have alluded to.
Dudes wearing too much gear and looking like total kooks. You don’t need sun goggles, helmets, life jackets, lycra leggings, gloves, and so on all at the same freaking time.

Yeah, I was wondering if people liked them for some other reason.
Duotone added a kicktail to their 2026 dockstart board with this copy.
For a more connected feel, the thinner footpad delivers a direct connection to the board, while the kick tail adds extra leverage for tricks and dynamic maneuvers.
Given the choice of that vs the bearded pumpfoiler in a red speedo, I’ll take that!

Torx hardware, there I said it, and Iʻm not taking it back. Iʻm not against the bolts per-se, but holy crap does the wrench nearly every manufacturer give you with it the same turd thatʻs not machined correctly so it causes wear immediately and it rusts in a day without even being in the water.
I can only speak for Lift, but their hex hardware was corrosion resistant and properly sized. They didnʻt give me a homework assignment when I bought new gear. Also hex sits deeper in the bolt, so I donʻt need stupid $60 wing nuts to change mast position in the water. Itʻs easy with hex.

Screw Torx!!! They suck. I have yet to strip the head out of an Allen bolt in my foil kits but have stripped many torx heads!!! Some will say
“Oh you can get more torque out of a torx bit”
We are putting bolts into aluminium parts or brass inserts in carbon. You don’t need more torque than a regular Allen key provides!!!

1000% agree. Torx works great in situations where the driver is positioned above the screw (like a impact), but not when the driver is a L shaped wrench. A hex tool sits in the screw a lot more securely (does not wiggle side to side) which makes it easier to use with off center tools. Its a lot easier to accidentally strip a torx because of this.

Overly positive reviews.
Those hoverair aqua reviews for example that flooded the internets a few months back. Not a single one pointed out the pretty obvious flaws in the product. Especially the early firmware was almost useless on the water.

Funny on kick tails and arch bars I put one over my mast which is obviously a good 8” from the tail and it works really well. It looks kinda funny and I had to trim it so it was comfortable to paddle, but I do like it. But yes at the tail of the board is pointless unless you’re pro towing a small board
