Turning Progression 140 and 100

I have a P140 and a P100. I’m about 73kg.
I am making progress on waves about shoulder high being able to turn and cut back on the face. I feel like I’m pushing the limits of the 140 in how hard it can turn, unless I really move my feet around for better leverage.

I tried the P100 in shoulder high waves because I wanted to be able to turn easier. The P100 I bought for overhead waves and it’s working well for that but I’m mostly just going straight and surviving.
When I turn the 100 I lose lift and fall to the water. Am I not going fast enough? Do I need to pump through the turn? I was told for my purposes to skip the 125.
Looking for tips turning the p140 and p100
TIA.

What fuse, tail and shim are you using on both?

I’m much heavier at 210-115 lbs so I don’t know how it translates but I like the short fuse, 14.5 tail and +0.5 shim on the 140. That’s my daily setup for prone in just about all conditions.

I tow on the 100 with a med fuse and a 0 or +0.5 shim, 14.5 tail. I’m not in love with this setup but the 100 isn’t really a tow wing either.

Use more back foot pressure and you won’t lose lift. It’s also approach on how you’re coming at the wave. Keep in mind when you turn you increase speed at times but you just need to keep that foil moving. Maybe try a little tail shim too

Adding the red .5 tail shim should help you maintain more front foot pressure through your turn. This should help you to keep flying.

Medium fuse and -.5 - -1.0 shim which helps keep the Foil Drive tame under power. I’m thinking need to lose the shim.

Seems like you might be tuned for foil drive as opposed to tuning for turning and pumping.

I only prone and don’t use foil drive but for the Progression 140 I would recommend that you try a +0.5 or +1.0 shim and the Progression 14.5” tail.

oh I didn’t realize you are foil driving. I would say it is the all the extra weight with such a small foil that is making you sink on the turns. You will need to be really banked over and driving the foil to build more speed

I haven’t tried shimming the 140 but I know with other setups (with or without foil drive) sinking in the turns can be remedied by adding positive shim. in your case start with removing the negative shim

For me on all of the progressions, I just need to move my back foot a little further back than I think to handle the turns. If I don’t, I dig the front as well. You kinda need to be on top/behind the mast, or use a + shim–but I hate the drag from the + shim so I just shift my feet. Tight stance and forward for pump/glide, and a bit shifted back when I want to shred.

Agree with these comments - use your back foot in the turn. It’s what I like about the progressions is that surfy feel. I similarly use the 0.5 shim and like that and also 14.5 tail, but haven’t tried the 13.5

When you catch the wave and pop up off of FD power, make sure to move your stance back. When using the motor your stance is forward to counter the motor. When not using the motor you need to move feet back slightly so you don’t lose height constantly.
