Uni Progressions: Forward or back in the tracks?

Some foils like to be farther forward in the tracks and some like to be farther back.

I just ordered a Uni Progression kit with a few different front wings. In general, where do the Uni Progression wings prefer to be in the mast tracks?

I currently have the Armstrong FG Surf prone board which has mast tracks that are longer and farther forward than most boards:

Thanks in advance!

The Progressions should work well with your board

Everyone has different preference and you can position the mast different depending on conditions but I like the Progressions (actually all Uni gear that I’ve tried) relatively far forward. I ride the 125 slightly (maybe 0.5”) behind where I ride the other sizes. I’m riding most tails with 0 or 0.5 degrees shim on the Progressions.

Thank you. Thats the kind of rough idea of forward-backward I was looking to read. Why the 125 back further?

I try to replicate the forward/back foot pressure between all of my gear and that’s where the 125 feels balanced to me. I’m also riding that foil in more powered conditions so slightly back (less lift) feels right. If I was riding it underpowered I might scoot it forward a touch.

there is more space between the wing and mast on the 125 compared to the 140/170. @Erik is the man to explain why.

125 is definitely way farther back than the 170 in the box, almost an inch for me.

All over the place for me depending on the board!

P170 on my previous Konrad 4’6 prone was slammed forward plus some stab shim
P170 on my new JS Mister Bennetts 4’5 is fairly far back in the box with 0 shim (still working out positioning on this board as I have a weird combo of rear calf burn but plenty of front foot pressure)
P170 on my Sunova Downwinder Elite is somewhere in the middle of the box
P125 on my old prone was also slammed forward haven’t tried it on either of the other boards yet

I ride progression 140 on Armstrong 4’5 FG and generally keep it at mast position 5.5.

I’ve found that to be my sweet spot. I typically will shim the stab and keep mast position the same to suit that day’s conditions.

For me the P140 was 1.5 mast positions behind where I rode my 925 at on the same board.

Hope that helps!

I also have the Armstrong 4’5 FG board. I ride the 170/200 at about 7, and the 125/140 would be more like 5.5 or 6. But I ride my setups about 2cm further forward than most people.
