Had a great day here on TX coast, 25mph wind, rode the E1100/reg/150 with a 2.8m wing, overpowered, 5-6ā€™ gulf slow moving swell. Low stall stall speed, getting used to its more delicate pump than Iā€™m used to from Uni, drops in and feels great at high end of speed range(wishing I was on the 700), handles aerated water well, stiff with the 80UHM, and I had a blast gliding and keeping with or accelerating to the next bump. :call_me_hand:

Well - about comparing Enduros to the SILKs - after 2 months of riding mostly the E700 I have some complement to the first timers feelings I already described before in this thread - and most of them ratify firsts feelings - but thereā€™s more nuance to it -

Definetly Enduros and SILKs sizes are comparable by span size - so E700 will work well in most situations were the S850 works too - can only imagine the E900 will compare to the S1050 as is stated by AFS and most people have commented. Hope AFS consider a E500ish that compares to the holy grail S650 -

This being said in those sizes parallels - must say:

  • Enduros are faster and glidier - also do feel more comfortable at top speed, also when going down the line on a wave, It wonā€™t load the front foot as much so you feel like you can squeeze more speed on the turn - but this makes it pretty more technical where the SILK itā€™s nimbler and easier, also not everyone and not for every kind of wave you want to go match speed while carving.
  • Low end, if Enduros are better on the higher end, being still pretty friendly to use and also can hold really good low end for a 700 11AR foil, the 850 will definetly will feel more chilled and relaxed at lower speeds and silkier.
  • All that being said, I would say the Enduros are better all-rounders but SILKs are definetly more user friendly.
  • Carving is still better on the SILK domain, but I do prefer in general terms the Enduro 700 over the SILK 850 because of itā€™s top end better range and sacrificing little on the carving and low end which can be replaced with some experience and good technique.

Other aspects -
Enduro being front wing modular is easier to transport and havenā€™t felt any cons performance wise vs the monobloc yet. Also get more options of lengths for fuselage, S850 only gets one position for the stab.
All this tests were with the same stab 38HA which does improve the glide of the 850, and it seems to me affects just a little bit the carve, a price Iā€™m willing to pay for more glide and better foot pressure balance.

The king of wave riding when it gets decent size and power - itā€™s still the S650, and test ride it with the 38HA and was nicely surprised with the extra glide and felt little difference on the carve vs the 132.

Silks seems to be also better at whitewash and turbulence -

So for intermediate to advanced riders looking for more performance and can compensate the lower end and carving ability with better rider technique - and a more flex platform that can also go downwind - Enduro is a better option size per size -

For begginers, Enduro are definetly a good options, but should go a size bigger (900 and 1100 should be great for most conditions), or really consider the SILK 850 and 1050 for their ease of use and more intuitive carve ability, also better low end range.

Almost forget about pumping -
The Enduro 700 feels more like pumping a PURE foil, itā€™s higher cadence but rewards you with more speed so you reach more distance in less time - but again itā€™s a bit more technical and the SILK perhaps will be a bit friendlier, but a little slower -

Hope this makes some sense and clears anything more than it confuses jaja!

Awesome writeup thanks for doing this! Iā€™ll have to try my 650 with the 38HA now. Thatā€™s a very speed/roll oriented foil so it makes sense that the tail might not impact the carving as much. Do you like that setup in the short or regular fuse position?

Looking forward to your feedback on the Ultra 750 someday. That foil eliminated the Silk 850 and Enduro 700 for me with one caveat: I very strongly prefer it on the skinny 75cm UHM over the 80cm UHM. Itā€™s so much looser and playful on that mast. Iā€™m desperately hopeful for AFS to deliver an 80cm skinny UHM to the market!

Thanks! Tha 650 SILK I mostly use it on the short fuse position, since I only take it out when the waves are powerful enough and just want to carve the hardest turns possible (on my very average level ja).

Hoping I get the ULTRA 750 on friday or saturday - Holidays colapsed shippings and Iā€™ve been waiting more than usual to get it - testing my anxiety levels to reach disorder ha! - But I canā€™t see how itā€™ll replace the Enduro or SILK in any way for me in my home conditions, really hoping itā€™ll solve my daily driver downwinders SUP whole windy season range. Not expecting to use it much for winging or prone unless itā€™s really small and lightwind.

I donā€™t think a skinnier 80 UHM will come out - most likely a stiffer 75 UHM - all the comments from Richard and Gwen suggest better using the ULTRA with the stiffer 80cm. Once I tried the 1100HA PURE with both the 75 and 80 - and glide aside, I did feel a little more flex on the 75 in comparison, still for how skinny and small in cord it is, it really amazing how stiff it is compared to other market masts.

I got the E700 with the switch fuse and am stoked. Normally Iā€™m using the Pure 900 and HA1100, so now Iā€™ll sell the Pure 900 as the E700 can cover all my winging, except the light session which Iā€™ll use the HA1100.

I had the E700 out in chest high swell and was amazed at how forgiving it was. The following day I was in cross chop over a swell in seriously messy water. Again I was shocked how much grip and control it had. At 85kg in winter gear, it did take a little more work and light feet to get going but once up - this thing flies. Itā€™s really light on the arms as the drag is so light. It felt like it had really good low end, but when I looked at the GPS data - the speed was still there well through transitions. It just never slowed down!

Iā€™m using the HA135 downwind/race stab and find it pairs nicely. Chatting to Richard B - he suggests pairing with the HA38. Iā€™ll also try it with the HA165 and Surf 150 just to get a sense of the balance they create. Iā€™m using a 85 UHM mastā€¦

Great Info @OmarFoilCol. I took the Enduro 700 / Pure 135 tail for a DW session yesterday.
Not ideal test conditions as I was way overpowered with my wing.

However, I did make some mental notes, and I can say I prefer the 135 tail over the 38HA.
The foil still maintain really good glide and feels very surfy but isnā€™t as sensitive to pitch and provides better stall speed hence less technical. Same goes for excellence handling in chaotic conditions. It can handle speed in rough waters without transferring jitteriness to the rider.

I did get a subtle front foot pressure with this tail, it was a positive feeling for me.

The 80cm Cedrus Evolution Surf mast loosened it up in comparison to the AFS UHM 80cm.
Iā€™m going to give this setup another go when properly powered, I feel it has a lot of potential.

Great stuff - Iā€™m cold just watching this vid!! Interesting point on the HA38, I might hold off on that as Iā€™m not sure if it will add much to my setup. The HA165 on the short setting might be interesting for light airsā€¦?

Thx @motivator! As evident from the video I made a few involuntary Airs with the Enduro 700
But Iā€™m not sure Iā€™d want to make a habit of this, those tips may not hold. I have the Pure 900
for that.

I just want to leave the comment here that for me the HA38 is a great tail. I need more sessions, but it is very slippery. Iā€™m coming off the KD Maui 13/14 marlin and DW tails. HA38 lines up very well with the KD downwind tail in size and feel and maybe a little less drag

Good! For tastes the colors definetly -
I havenā€™t tried the 135HA on the enduros or silks - I did test the HA38 on the PURE 1100HA vs the 165HA felt looser and more balanced, still keeping the pumping ability and unlocking better carving.
I donā€™t feel the pitchiness you mention on the HA38 - probably I just got used to it, for downwind and in general terms Iā€™m liking the HA38 on the long position fuse - this does helps with pitchiness (Iā€™m on the short fuse).

@motivator I did test the 165HA on the SILK 850 looking for better low end for a SUP DW test run - didnā€™t liked it at all, it did improved low end but increased front pressure too much and made pitch very unstable in this aspect making me breach as soon as bumps got any power - also felt super draggy and obviously carving decresed. Not sure this foils we are talking about should go with such a big stab, preferably would test an HA40 or HA43 instead of the PURE 165HA - or even the 135HA could be a good test to try as @foilpatrol mentions.

On the 80cm it definitely wont replace the others. I rode the 650, 700, 750 all back to back to back on a big day in the gorge and the 750 was definitely stiffer. Insane glide though! I really wanted to buy the 700 after that test but I held off. I think the bigger enduros for ultralight days are more attractive for me based on my current quiver but I do question if the 75cm UHM is going to be happy on the 1100 or 1300. Looking forward to testing those in the spring.

I should note that my comments regarding the HA38 tail is in the context of this thread IE Enduro.
I prefer the HA38 over the Pure 135 when riding both Pure 900 and 800HA.
It felt better in both glide and rail to rail response and didnā€™t have the pronounced pitch sensitivity I felt with the Enduro 700.

What I mean by pitch sensitivity is the tendency of the foil to stall over a certain angle of attack.
Iā€™m sure it has everything to do with the way I ride and itā€™s not necessarily a ā€œthingā€
but then again, I did not experience that with both Pure 900,800HA only with the Enduro 700.

Not to be confused with pitch stability. I found the HA38 offers better pitch stability than the 135
In every case.

Iā€™m thinking about making the switch to AFS Enduro, any advice would be appreciated.

Iā€™m 98kg, foiling 6 years, been through the brands like most. I sup, wing, kite, tow and dw foil. I use longer skinnier production boards 7ā€™2 x 20 x 107L, 8ā€™1 x 21 x 128L. The majority of my riding is sup foil and wing foil + wing upwind, flag out dw.

Iā€™m considering the standard fuselage, 1300, 80 UHM, and undecided between HA40 or the 152 (currently main tail is axis 50 skiny 362 x 151 - AR 8.6), and 900 or 1100. Most of the conditions I go out in are flakey wind and not that strong wind swell and sup waves mainly less that shoulder high. So I tend to use a bigger foil and smaller hand wing for the glide and donā€™t really ride that powered up, mainly flagging out.

How strong is the mast to fuselage connection when the gear gets worked in the shorebreak, also the wing tips of the front wing, tail?

I know people say the foils ride 200cm bigger than they are, but Iā€™ve read somewhere that the 1300 is comparable to the art pro 1201, so would the 1100 be like the art pro 1121 and the 900 like the art pro 1051?

Should I go for the:

  • 1100 or 900?
  • HA40 or 152

No demo gear locally unfortunately.

Thanks in advance

The 1300 is a big foil. But I see you are a bigger guy and like riding smaller hand wings and bigger front wings. So maybe that is the call over the 1100. Either choice is going to amaze you in terms of efficiency, glide, and speed (for its size). One other tidbit. The Enduros are very refined (thin) wings that get really thin at the tips. It isnā€™t the set up that you want rolling around in the shorebreak. Let us know what you end up picking.

For your use case the Pure HA1100 might be a single foil solution.
The glide on this foil is on another level. Goes forever even on gutless junk.
Impressive upwind angles and lots of lift.

Tips are not as sensitive as the Enduro it will hold better.

The fuse connection is very durable. I had to ditch the board once on a shore break
I had the Enduro on and the tip did get a little soft. No other issues though.

the Pure 135 tail works really well for me waiting to run with the HA43 I recently received.

Dang looks like he requested for it to be taken downā€¦ I tried to give him credit too oh well.
