AFS Silk V2 Teaser!

Been begging for it for some time. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I will buy a 550 the second it is announced - especially in a 9 AR. That would be epic.

5 for 1 was easy on the EVO HA1000.

Nice, yes I’ve not had budget for a 650 v1 as a more novelty foil for me as sounds like it wouldn’t work for my conditions prone, but maybe the new one does. 750 is certainly much more likely for me to replace the 850. I try limit to 3 foils max, and have 900 and 1300 enduro to cover the spectrum of offshore and pump etc

+1 to 550, and smaller stabs, the 130 is too big even for my 850

Also can I say that at whatever flex cost, I’m loving the switch from monoblock…

But is it fun to carve? I’ll get 5-1s on my Enduro 1300 setup but it’s sooo clumsy and slow feeling.

The one thing I’ve struggled to find in the AFS line-up is a super fun surf wing that pumps/glides well. I was hoping the enduro would be it for me but I couldn’t find a size I loved. Really hoping the new V2 fills that gap for me!

The EVO HA 1000 is for those glassy small waist high wave days, of course its not gonna turn like the Silk but it is a fun foil to maximize glide and pump…however, i felt thats all if was kind of good for. I did some downwind runs with it but if it gets into solid bumps its super hard to control and not fun. The Enduro 900 i use as a SUP surf foil, fun but i can get 2-3 waves out of it because here on Oahu my local spot the next wave can be 50-100 yards behind, due to long period swells so my legs can’t take too much pumping, same as the Silk but i love the Silk…but i dont see a reason to jump on a AR8 silk to a AR9 silk, not much improvement in numbers.

Gotcha makes sense. Yeah I really enjoyed the Enduro 900 / Silk 132 as a SUP surf foil setup but I smashed my E900 and switched over to the Silk 1050 / Ultra Carve 130. Highly recommend! The UCarve stab is epic.

I’ll report back on the Silk 750 V2 once I get a few rides on it. Hoping there is some more magic there than just the AR increase!

Ill have to try the 1050 with the new surf tail and U carve.

Also, thats the thing with AFD they make great surf foils but are lacking with DW foils. The pure HA are just too advanced and technical and i haven’t tried the Ultra 900. I have the ultra 750 and its pretty good but not fast.

Pure 145 tail also goes really good on the 1050 (and the enduro 9). Brings a bit more speed and glide to the setup over the silk tails. I think the carve tails are replacing the pure tails.

Lots of teasing but still very few silk v2 reports out there. Foiling Magazine posted an interview about it, but it got pulled.

Totally agree on the Pure 145. I pair it with the 1050 on smaller days where I’m pumping more. That thing pumps wayyyyy better than the silk stabs.

Meow I agree with you on the V1 not being obsolete anytime soon. I think the 8.0 AR is PERFECT for days with more power. I will absolutely still be using mine. I think it will be impossible for a 9.0 V2 650 to outperform a 8.0 650 when it comes to towing in bigger surf. Until they come out with a 550 V2 I will most definitely be on my V1 650 on those bigger days.

But there are so many days where I wish I had a touch more glide, pump, and speed. If this unlocks that with only losing a fraction of the surfy magic then I am stoked. The gap between the 8.0 Silk and 11.0 Enduro is just too big and I think the V2 will fill that nicely.

I can’t tell about which 650 or each size per size will turn better or carve better between V1 or V2, but roll and other features or capabilities of any foil will NOT depend only in numbers like AR or area etc.

Working on camber sections, and some other design factors have shown great improvements on features we didn’t think were possible before, say, surf wings that nowadays can downwind or super gliders that exceed out thoughts of how good they could turn.

Point being said, not to start controversy, let’s hope that the V2 can at least keep the turny and carve capacities and still do better glide and pump so I wouldn’t place a full bet on the V2 not living up to the V1 carving per same size

I think my wallet is the one hoping the 650 isn’t as good as a tow wing haha. The foiler in me yearns for better gear so I will be super stoked if it’s an all-around upgrade across the whole line! Time will tell…T-minus 4 weeks until I get mine!

Damn, I almost convinced you to buy the 650 V2 for Chicama and let me test drive it :joy::joy:

I was tempted to get the 650 too but it said it was shipping at a later date :frowning:

I need some more time but I rode the 950V2 the other day. Terrible onshore cold conditions. Foiled for 3 1/2 hours which is a long time for me. My magic number in most foils is 800-1000. The 950 sits on the higher end but it feels so small when turning. It’s got insane glide and low end. I was very surprised at how fast it is for a ā€œmidā€ aspect foil. I am a huge fan of the 900 enduro with the 142 silk tail. But this 950 is taking its place. Now would the 850 be better? I don’t know… I am pretty content with a little more low-end but still turn on angles that I have yet to feel. The tail I am riding is new. I don’t know what it is. But will be getting some footage and a rider review out to you guys soon. If you are already in the AFS ecosystem put some cash to the side. Results to follow.

Can you share any comparisons with the v1 850/1050? Or E9 since it sounds if thats where you have the most experience?
