AFS Ultra - Whale style Downwinder

I assume you are talking about the fuse to foil connection? I didn’t play with it too much because I really didn’t think there was any chance I would consider buying it. It looked well made and I’ll try to get some pictures/dims for you at AWSI.

I tried the Pure v1 which I didn’t like (and this is nothing like the pure v1) and have not tried the Pure HA. I can only compare it to the Ultra 750. I’ve been told the Ultra is a more user friendly version of the Pure HA.

The Enduro 700 felt like it was a perfect fit in between the Silk 650 and Ultra 750. A huge upgrade on glide over the silk 650 and it turns just as well as the Silk 850, possibly better. It doesn’t glide as well as the Ultra, but in big swell, it gets a huge upgrade in speed and turning.

Mind you, all of this testing was done on a single day in big conditions at the hatch on the 80cm UHM. I’ve tested the Ultra 750 on the 75cm UHM for the last few days and it is both fast and loose on that mast. I would really want to compare all three on the skinny mast to see which one is my favorite.

I did not try the other sizes since it was so big and fast moving out there. The 700 simply felt perfect. It was the best foil of the day for me (of course it was, it’s the one I didn’t buy). I’ve got on foil and instantly felt at home. So, the crazy user friendliness of the Silks is 100% there, but with a huge boost to the glide. It would be great to get to try them on smaller or average days though.

I did chat with the guys about the other sizes and the turning on the enduros and they said a few things:

  1. All enduros have really good low end.
  2. They will all turn well. They will not be releasing foils of this style that don’t turn.
  3. Even the 1300, would have worked that day when it was big. They are meant to have lots of initial lift, maintain maneuverability, and move quick enough to have a huge range.

My big takeaway was probably that if you are only going to by a single foil, the enduro range seemed like a great choice and I’m sure a lot of people will like the breakdown ability.

I looked at the connection this morning at AWSI & it appears to be a scaled version of the Fuselink mast/fuse connection - it felt really stiff in hand but proof would be riding on a bigger front wing…

I ve got a Evo 1650 Foil and the frontfoil connection ist like the duotones very stiff ,feel not reely a div. to my silk 1050, only my opinion. 100 Kg rider , Whitebird 6,6. :call_me_hand:

I’ve never owned this style of foil but the fuse is beefy and the joint is t&g with 3 m8 bolts.

I handled the enduro 1300 today and it just didn’t feel big/gross. Gotta get my hands on that for a paddling demo!

Those look pretty sweet. How would you see an enduro 700 complimenting the silk 850?

FWIW, Gwen said that the Enduro 1100 paddles up pretty similar to the HA 1100.

Enduro 700 turns just as well as the silk 850 but adds speed that nearly matches the 650 and glide that exceeds the entire silk lineup. So, those days when the 850 is feeling a little bit maxed out? That’s perfect for the 700. I’d expect wingers to fall in love with the 700 pretty quick and Gwen already released a video of him downwind supfoiling it.

What is the max speed you have reached on the Enduro 700 so far?

Wondering if it will be as capable as the Silk 650 for towing bugger surf, but with the extra glide and pontentially better pumping.

I’m going to kick my response over to the enduro thread!

I can’t see how it’ll be comparable to the 650 SILK for tow - having more span does gives more glide but also at the expense that at higher speed it’ll be harder to control and carve.

I see the 700 replacing the 850 SILK in my quiver which I use for everyday small under the chest waves -
But to replace the 650 I think you would have to have a 500 Enduro - which I would definitely love to try
