I’ve been riding Lift since the old day, mostly prone and I have tried most of their gear over time.
My go to setup is 120 HA + 20 carve and M2 32 inch mast, sometimes I will switch the 120 for the 90HA if conditions are good or towing.
I am looking to try something new out of curiosity and I am leaning toward the armstrong 780 HA or KT atlas. Anyone has experience comparing those systems to Lift? Ideally something that breaches a bit better and is stiffer.
Since you’re using the M2 mast, they don’t feel stiffer.
Both the Armstrong HA 780 and the KT Atlas 790 have better low-end performance than the Lift 120HA.
The Lift is faster and accelerates more quickly, but it requires higher speed to be efficient.
That said, if you’re curious to test, I’d recommend going one size smaller.
Honestly, it’s hard to find something significantly better than the Lift 90 or 120 if you’re into surfing with high-aspect wings. You might prefer one over the other depending on your style, but these Lift wings are far from outdated.
I’ve spent a little time towing with the 120. I have a bunch of time on the Armie HA wings.
The 680HA or 780HA will both turn/carve and change edges more freely. They have a lower top end than the 120, but for the wave sizes the 120 is useful for, I think the speed range of the HA’s is more ideal.
When towing into overhead, long period, I had a hard time keeping up with swells when whipping in early. The Armie HA have like a governor keeping them from going faster.
I’d try to get yourself on the AFS Silk 650/850 and Enduro 700/900 as well. The Enduro is going to cover the bases that the HA’s and the 120 do, but more range and better… the Silks surf like nothing else. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
The KT are pretty amazing.
Have that surf DNA that lift comes from with more performance and just better development as they are focused in it. Minus is their alloy rise and flexy tails.
You should try Code foils of you can honestly.
Soli mast and construction. Not one WARRENTY from 100s of foils iv sold.
Just jumped over from lift to code. Pretty happy so far. Went from proning the 90ha and the 120 ha to proning the 720s. Turns smoother and better. Sometimes I was really outrunning the wave on the lift HAs. The code has Less pump and glide. While the code has a more gradual and predictable lift.
Also switched out the lift 110 Florence to the code 680 r. Over all liking the code better because it turns better and handles breaches a lot easier. Still haven’t had the chance to compare the top end because the wind hasn’t been very good but I think the low end of the 110 Florence might be a touch better than the 680r
Long story short it sounds like I should stick with my current setup: It’s only pros and cons at this point. I am not willing to sacrifice pumping since I think it’s key to good prone sessions so going to MA wing like the code doesn’t make sense to me.
I have lift ha 120/90 combo too, works great on kite and dw sessions (78cm no limitz mast) also! I use the 132 afs tail and the lift foil adapter shortest setting . I wish i could use the silks but we don’t have big waves here the gulf , so the enduros work well for more pump glide
