I am currently winging, SUPing and learning to downwind on png1300. I find it easy to lift off and nice to ride, but sometimes it becomes super difficult to control. This is in stronger swell or when there are stronger currents.
I am thinking of getting another foil for winging in such conditions. What would the recommendation be please? The wind is always marginal in here, hence I got png1300 with DW board what gets me going with 5m wing and <10kt wind.
Would hps1050 be a good alternative - faster?, a little easier to turn?
Spitfire is probably better line, 1180 or similar. Also consider an HM mast as it is a very good value upgrade for the big Axis foils and often going used for a good price
Thanks Matt. There are so many more HPS wings on the market second hand than Spitfiers…
HM mast is coming to me soon. I’m currently on the alu one. Does it really make difference in control of the foil?
I somehow thought it is more about the drag only.
I had similar, I learnt to wing on PNG 1150, my next wing was the HPS 980 which was great. Very good value 2nd hand these days.
I can’t comment on the 1300, but the 980 was a lot faster and turned a lot better than the 1150. I understand the 1150 is noticeably slower than the 1300.
I vote HPS over the spitfire. The new spitfires are an absolute dog to pump compared to the HPS. Used to have 4 spitfires in various sizes but now I only have the 1100. HPS>Spitfire anyday everyday. They are also stupidly cheap.
