I recently learned to dock start my 1300S and have been using it build up my pumping endurance and clean up my technique for prone/shore runners. While looking around for a more pump-specific foil from Code, I heard they have a pump foil coming this summer. Anyone have details?
In my head, hereʻs my wishlist:
Something between the 1300S and 1250R in performance
AR not too high, around 11 maybe? Would sacrifice a little turning over the 1300S.
Section with lower stall speed than 1300S, but not enough to make it blow up in tiny waves
Iʻve heard the bigger S wing pump worse than the 1300S and the 1250R sounds like it turns poorly and has too high a stall speed for beach starts. I think something in the middle could be a fun multi-purpose, more pump focused wing.
No idea about the rumor but I can say that Code positions the 1725S as their pump wing and it’s a decent pump wing. I’ve pumped the 1725S, 1300S and 1250R.
The 1725S is slow and draggy but it’s very surfy if you have small bumps to ride. It’s very accessable as well.
Iʻm not sure if Id ever need something like the 1725. Things are going well on the 1300S. I often have to take off into the wind at 10-15 knots before I can turn around and do my run, but Iʻm at around 1:30 right now.
ʻm going to try learning beach starts soon and expecting the 1300S to be a slog to learn that on. Maybe the 1540S could be a middle ground, but Iʻll probably wait to see if they drop something more interesting this summer.
There has been a K series “Kanga” shown at events which is the “pump foil”
When I saw them they looked pretty big but as pump foiling isn’t a discipline I’m particularly into I didn’t demo or look into them any further and don’t know any ETA’s.
I saw three K sizes at a recent Code Info night. All around 1300mm span. Just Different areas. Dunno on ETA. They had an aluminium mast as well which should open up the range to first time users.
