Unifoil Hyper2 pics

I chopped the tips and about another 1/2 inch. To where the roll up started.

I’ve been talking about the Progression 170.

I’ve only felt this behind a boat, but on the 1095/178 no shim, at higher speeds it wants to go down, so I’m weighting my back foot more. Anyone else feel that?

Most foils will get a touch if that forward pitching at some speed. Move the mast 1/2 inch forward. Should let you keep that fast tune and not dive as much. I’d rather deal with a bit more front foot pressure then having to move back at speed.

Agree with this.

The way I’m tuned (0.5 shim - more lift, forward in the box) I never get the 1095 to dive with speed. I find the front pressure ramps very quickly (non linear) at speed, and when I’m overpowered or beyond the speed range I need to put all my pressure on the front foot. I’ve tried other tunings and this is where I’ve landed. Didn’t like this foils behavior without that kind of front pressure and I find that’s how it rides best.

If I can’t keep enough front foot pressure and I’m over foiling, then it’s time for a smaller foil. Would love an 850 with a similar profile…

When I’m behind the boat, I want to put the mast forward, but I don’t because I want to keep it where I feel I need it for taking off. I still have ptsd from all the blown sessions with takuma/army fg combo, so moving it forward slowly.

I dm’d takuma if they were planning more sizes of that and they didn’t say yes. Which is why the progression is so tempting.

PB from Unifoil here. The Altra is a wing that that we have been working on in the background for a while. It is significantly different to the Progression 140 wing, which will be out early in the new year. The Progression wings have been designed in collaboration with Erik (of here fame) and Clifford Coetzer of Unifoil fame. Clifford not only brought two of the best surf wings to market (the Vortex and Vyper) but he is also known for bringing the first HA wings to market.

The Progression Wing aims to solve for a very different paradigm than the Altra. If I may paraphrase Erik’s words (and I think I may) he wanted to develop a foil that would have a low stall speed, great glide and one that could roll and turn brilliantly, in the low energy waves of Florida. This is what they have solved for and accomplished. The Atra is so called because it is ULTRA HA and is super fast with a ridiculous top end speed, BUT, it also has a high stall speed making it more difficult for most foilers to ride. It is specifically designed for the kite and wing racing sectors. It will be released sometime next year.

So we’re set on “progression” wing. Are we sure we can’t change it to “Florida Man” wing?

Agreed, should definitely be called the “FloridaMan”.

Any comments on the aluminum mast versus carbon versus the high modulus carbon mast from Uni?

I’m interested in preordering a FloridaMan (especially since I live in Florida) but it’s going to be >$2300 for carbon plus tax!!!

haha…Of Super Florida Man

Is the progression going to be ready for pre-order before the discount on the katana masts expires?

It has always fascinated me just how slow those waves are moving in Erik’s clips. Certainly a lot slower than where most surfing background Foilers live. For the uni foil devotes maybe the hyper 2 will be more satisfying where conditions are more surf like.

So with unifoil can leave your gear together with no corrosion?

Full carbon and titanium hardware. Similar to Armstrong right? I’d say yes.

any feedback on the hyper2 ?

Thought I’d throw some real time feedback in. I’m coming from Takuma, which at the time really helped me progress. I prone, wing and SUP and have had the opportunity to ride the new progression 170 &140 on Katana masts. They are simply amazing! Glide, stability, turning and transitions are effortless. Great pump. Build quality is top notch. I ride the 170 most days. They are definitely upping my game in all areas. Had a few tow and prone sessions on the 140 and it’s the first time I’ve felt completely comfortable at all speeds. Backdooring bigger sections was a blast and also in the smaller inside stuff it still has the low end to carve and hit the little 1 foot sections. Don’t think I’ll be needing much else for a long time. Nice job Erik and Cliff.

What’s your weight? How big were the waves exactly that you were towing into?

I’m 175 lbs. I’m here in NE Fla. Waves mostly 2-5ft

How do you compare the pump of the takuma 1210 to the new 170?
