That’s amazing! Yes the average speeds are surprisingly high. The High Modulus Carbon is so stiff it’s easier to keep the foil high in the water, reducing the wetted area, increasing the speeds for this size wing. Great wing! I’m 99% sure I’m gonna run it in M2M and M2O.
Size decisions… Anyone on here flown these yet?
I’ve only heard rumors that all the Brady Hurley surf footage where he’s doing airs super easy is on the one that is compared to the 120ha. He says there is no pitch instability after landing airs apparently.
My wild guess turned into the 121 Havoc. From what I’ve seen of the 120 prototype, that became the 121 Havoc, it definitely takes more effort to connect multiple waves compared to the 120HA.
Since I’m not boosting airs, I’ll probably upgrade from a beat up Lift 120HA to the high modulus 120HA instead of getting a 121 Havoc.
The 92 and 105 Havoc’s look like good options for towing.
Interesting how Big Winds is the first to release this, the Lift Havoc isn’t on their website and I personally know two dealers that are kinda pissed about being left in the dark on new releases. Either way can’t wait to hear some reviews on how these go! Yewwwwww🤟🏼
Because they are in ‘the Gorge’ which brings up the larger question I’m sure I’m not the only one pondering. Why has this milfoil infested, overcrowded, overpriced river town become the epicenter of foiling in the US? Too off topic…
I’ll shortly be picking up a 130 from Big Winds based on Shep’s review and a couple of local users.
Is anyone interested in the Havoc range for winging? I ding the 150HA and 90HA. Beyond keen to ding a MA foil.
But weird it’s not even on the Lift website
I’m in Cabarete during the winter and I’m very interested too in the Havocs for winging. Like the 150HA but I’d like a more surfy feel. Anyone ride one yet?
They are no longer listed on the Big Winds website. I think maybe they jumped the gun a little too early. But I’m not mad because I was frothing to know what Lift’s new surf style wings were going to be!
I don’t think they are truly “released”. It seems like someone at BW posted a webpage accidentally as public and it was found. All the product shows as out of stock. I think it was just a web developer mistake. I imagine lift will release like they did the Florence wings. An intro video, Instagram content, etc. all in one push.
I was thinking the same when I was scanning the AR of the havocs.
I’m interested to hear the sales pitch/informational video on these with Damien and Matt E. Because these specs are dead on what Armstrong did with their MA series of front wings which are now kinda outdated already and I wouldn’t consider the Armstrong MA wings as great “surf” wings due to them not having much glide/pump. Also, with all of Lift’s new incredible DW wing releases over the last year and already having the Lift HA70 and HA90 that are my favorite tow wings of all time I can’t see these smaller low aspect wings replacing those in weaker swells where I live. I’ve tried the Armstrong MA series and I’m not a fan of those. Lift knows how well the HA70 and HA90 were received and there’s just no way the replacement wings for these are the Havoc 92 and 105. Lift’s website currently has the pro bundle for the HA70 and HA 90 for $799 so I’m curious what their replacement for these wings are because they are clearly being faded out. Both of those wings are game changers though!
I think it all depends where and what you discipline you want. Without the V3 Surf I think Lift will miss a foil that works for wingers, it’s not all about the endless glide and pump so this could fit the middle. Sometimes going too fast in fun waves is more work in my opinion. Excited to hear how the new stuff goes.
Looks like some fun wings in the surf! Excited to try them!
One thing that seems odd to me…my impression of the foil market is that there is a lot of focus on DW foils, and surf foils, and even pump foils…and while there are foils designed/marketed for winging, they often seem to be an afterthought/tack-on to the other categories, with lots of mentions of how “…this would also be good for winging too”
In any case, will look forward to some user reviews on the 148…which is said to be “good for winging too”
I agree. I feel like a great winging foil has different criteria from a lot of the other disciplines. Probably closest to a surf foil, but needs more range at the sacrifice of pump (although those attributes may be more correlated than exchangeable).
For me winging is the easiest and least interesting foil sport, so needs less specific wings, maybe why it’s an after thought in wing design
Its the biggest market for foil sales, so I doubt its an afterthought for the companies selling wings.
^^^^which is a big part of why I think its so odd
