AFS Silk V2 Teaser!

My plan is going to 750v2 from 850 v1 as my main foil, think with the bump in AR it will be great

That is my thinking too - I love my 850 (especially with the new UCarve stabs) so I ordered the 750 v2. I’ll probably keep using my 850 V1 as my ā€˜rock foil’ that I don’t care about beating up as much and keep the 750 as pristine as possible.

Same here. Im trading out my 850 and 1050 v1s for the 750 and 950 v2s. Probably keeping my Enduro 9 for now until I figure out the new setups.

What size UCarve have you been using?

I’ll prob be listing the 850 (modular and mono) and 1050 (mono) in the next month if anyone wants a deal…

I’ve only used the UCarve 130 - I feel like it adds about 10-15% speed to the Silk 850/1050 over my silk stab. It doesn’t have that smooth buttery feeling of the Silk 132 stab but it glides and pumps so well - and still turns on a dime. It makes connecting waves on the 850 V1 so. much. easier. I feel like I can stop pumping halfway to the wave I’m aiming for and just glide into a nice carve vs. pumping hard the whole way on the silk 132 stab.

Currently in Chicama and just got out of the water - second day on the Silk 750 V2.

Benoit is an absolute legend and arranged a demo wing for me that was magically delivered via courier service to LAX during a short layover from Mexico → Peru. So sick. Thank you @FoilATX and The Foil Shop for coordinating!!

I felt comfortable on this wing on my very first wave. It took very little time to dial in coming from the Silk / Enduro. I would say this wing feels like 2 parts silk mixed with 1 part enduro + a little extra magic. For Chicama, it’s incredible. The past two days have had their infamous cross/offshore wind blasting with smaller surf which was difficult for my Silk 650 to handle last year. I kept getting blown off waves. Not an issue with the Silk 750 V2.

As others have stated, this wing feels significantly faster, has much better glide, and an easy pump between waves. I rode it yesterday with the 120 USurf, 132 Silk, and 130 UCarve. My favorite by far was the UCarve - that’s all I rode today. If the wind is light, I’ll probably hop on my 132 Silk as I love the feeling of that stab but its just too slow with the wind blasting. The 120 Usurf felt solid but I enjoyed the UCarve more. All good stabs but I could see myself just sticking with the original Silk 132 / 130 Ucarve depending on conditions.

Looks like a bump in swell is coming tomorrow so will report back as waves get bigger. I’ve been pretty impressed with the range on the 750 so far and can easily see this being my daily prone driver back home. That said, I do hope conditions allow for me to use my V1 650 / Silk 132 stab - that still is my favorite feeling on foil and no chance I am selling that wing anytime soon (unless maybe a Silk 550 V2 is coming out?).

Either way - stoked more than ever on AFS! Go out and demo these wings if you can!

Benoit crushed it with arranging that! Stoked for you!

With the 750 in hand and clearly in love, would you say that is a perfect next step after the OG 850? I feel like there’s a lot of us who are wanting that answer and you likely have it!

Yes, yes, and yes! If you love the V1 850 but you want to unlock more speed, glide, and pump - absolutely get on a 750 V2. And definitely play around with different stabs because this wing has a pretty impressive range that you can unlock different feels with.

That said, if you live somewhere where your V1 850 feels perfect for your waves I wouldn’t say go sell it and hop on the V2 right away. The V1 is still incredible. I think the V2 is more for people that are craving more speed/glide/pump (which I was).

Also - for you prone foilers out there - I’ve only towed on this wing so far. I’ll put out a more thorough review once I’m home with my prone board. Also stoked to try out the 950 V2 on my SUP!

You’re welcome! Although this merits a little clarification :joy:

Foil shop are epic they ordered silk v2 s early sight unseen and as I understand it you bought one right away so you could take it to chicama. Fast forward to a week ago and due to the government shut down in the US it has taken 5 weeks to get air freight through… so we couldn’t deliver yours on time. knowing you had a bucket list level trip and as someone who has yet to get to chicama but vicariously froths I just felt like I had to do what I could. so glad Foil Shop was able to help me coordinate!

Can’t wait for more feedback!

ps for those early orders we got through the log jam and they are on their way to you and your dealers. More this week and again in a couple weeks. Thanks for y’all’s patience!

And exactly why I love AFS so much - truly the best customer service! Thank you again! Having this wing honestly made my trip already and I still have 11 more days of towing ahead of me

Will share more feedback as I continue to dial it in :call_me_hand:

I have now had a couple of sessions winging on the Silk V2 950 with the UCarve 150 tail. The conditions were beach break wind swell side on 17-20 mph, around 2-3 foot 6 sec period swell. So bumpy/choppy. These conditions create good downwind-style riding where you end up chasing sections to surf. In these conditions I am usually torn between the easy and efficient glide the Enduro offers vs the pure surf feel the Silk V 1 offers. As expected, the Silk V2 950 filled that gap perfectly. I would say for winging in particular, the V2’s are the perfect Swiss Army knife. I felt like it accelerated and glided much more efficiently than the V1’s which can feel a little draggy in pure wind swell (compared to the Enduro). And when I did find myself on a nice breaking section, it allowed my to surf it hard where historically, when I would be on the Enduro in the same situation, all I could think about is wishing I was on the Silk. Anyway, nothing overly provocative here. Just wanted to report some feedback per a different discipline.

Quick update today - swell picked up and we had some solid 5-7 foot faces in Chicama and I 100% was overpowered on the 750 V2. Would have loved to try the 650 V2 in today’s conditions but rode my 650 V1 instead.

It was crazy windy and I was having trouble with my Silk 132 stab so switched to the new USurf 120 and it was an absolute blast. Super super fun session. That stab pairs beautifully with the Silk 650 V1.

@FoilATX I know I didn’t have the 650 V2 available but any potential for a 550 V2 coming later this year? Might be the perfect tow wing for those bigger days!

Day 4 update - Size dropped a bit but still some solid 4-6 foot surf to play in.

The Silk 750 V2 + USurf 120 stab were perfect.

I could see myself using this exact setup 80% of the time here except on the bigger days. Perfect combination of silky carving, speed, glide, and pump. I’m a very average pumper and had no problem connecting 3/4 waves from La Punta to the beach - even with my legs gassed. Zero chance I would have been able to do that on my V1.

Well done AFS and thanks again @FoilATX ! So fun riding the V2 down here - I’m sure you can tell I am frothing my brains out haha

So is the ā€œbig shipmentā€ officially thru customs yet or was this a one-off demo or something? Ive got a preorder hanging out there and I’m chomping at the bit.

This was just a demo wing that I need to give back after the trip. It happened to be near the foil shop when I was flying through LAX so right place / right time kind of thing. I think Ryan Arzy was using this setup right before my trip.

But sounds like the shipment made it through customs and expecting to swap out the demo for my purchased wing in ~10 days when I’m back.

New fuselage? Doesn’t look titanium to me..

The copy has so many words, but says so little

Benoit explains it well. What’s really needed is a picture of the Regular, Short, and Advanced all side by side showing the differences. Picture with the ti one too when that gets released!

Where does he explain it well? Interested in learning more!

The Fuselage out now is pretty durable as heck as it is, not sure how an ā€œUHMā€ Fuselage will make much improvements. I think at this point foil companies will slap UHM of something just to make money.

Pretty sure its using UHM to make it smaller profile than the standard fuse, not specifically for stiffness (although maybe its stiffer too).

On the phone, he explains it quite well

@motochong I don’t want to try to explain it myself but here’s me scratching at the surface:

Do you see how the back half of the advanced slopes down?

Compared to the regular which slopes up:

It was explained to me that they are altering the stabs position in the water column to create a different experience that is especially beneficial to the new Ultra foils. I’m currently testing the 600 on the regular fuse and it’s excellent. It would be interesting to try it back to back with the advanced as I’m not quite sure what to expect from that change.
